Updates, news and events in San Francisco parks  Recreation Centers to Reopen on Weekdays Starting September 7  We're excited to share that the majority of our Recreation Centers will reopen on weekdays beginning on Tuesday, September 7. Note that the Harvey Milk Photo Center will reopen on September 15, the Randall Museum on October 2, and the Golden Gate Park Senior Center on January 4, 2022. All visitors are required to show proof of vaccination to enter our recreation centers. The new requirements do not apply to those who are ineligible for vaccinations, including children under 12 years old. Recreation Centers Juri Commons Reopening Celebration on September 13 Join the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, the San Francisco Parks Alliance, and San Francisco Children and Nature for the reopening celebration of Juri Commons (324 San Jose Avenue) on Monday, September 13 beginning at 1 p.m. Help us celebrate the $1.65 million renovation, which includes a new children’s play area, nature exploration area, fitness equipment and railway elements honoring the site's history. The event will feature a ribbon cutting, speaking program and more! The renovation is part of the Let’sPlaySF! Initiative, a partnership that seeks to inspire creativity and play throughout the city by renovating some of the city's most timeworn playgrounds. Juri Commons Renovation Richmond Playground Sport Courts Reopen as Part of SFFSR Grant The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department re-opened the newly resurfaced sport courts at Richmond Playground late last week. These courts are the last of 20 tennis and two basketball courts to be revitalized through a partnership between Rec and Park and the non-profit San Franciscans for Sports and Recreation (SFFSR). They provided $964,000 in grant funding to resurface courts over the past four years including Buena Vista Park, Golden Gate Heights Park, McLaren Park, Moscone Playground, Mountain Lake Park, Potrero Hill Recreation Center, Richmond Playground and West Portal Playground. Recreation Facility Assistant Job Listing Environmental Educator Internship We are hiring Environmental Educator Interns to help lead our Youth Stewardship Program (YSP) this coming year, from November 2, 2021 to September 13, 2022. YSP is a free environmental education program offered to the San Francisco Unified School District and youth-serving organizations. Interns will lead youth on field trips to San Francisco parks to help them understand the role they play in building healthy social and natural communities. Virtual Teen Programming SF Open at the Goldman Tennis Center from September 3 to 6 The historic San Francisco Open is returning to Golden Gate Park during Labor Day weekend from September 3 to 6 at the recently renovated Lisa and Douglas Goldman Tennis Center. This year's championships, hosted by the Tennis Coalition SF and USTA NorCal with funding from Taube Philanthropies, is the 120th anniversary of the tournament. Mobile Rec 6th Avenue Skatin' Place Community Artwork Meeting on September 11 Join the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department and the Church of 8 Wheels for a community meeting on Saturday, September 11 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. to discuss future artwork at this iconic Golden Gate Park site. The meeting will take place at Skatin' Place (6th Avenue and JFK Drive) and will provide an opportunity to celebrate San Francisco's colorful roller skating culture by reviewing proposed designs for an upcoming art installation.
