Next Stage Performers: Critical Hit 🕯
Middle school students will engage in weekly rehearsals in preparation for the final performance of an original musical inspired by Bay Area youth with original music written by BACT staff.
What happens when our heroes get pulled into the world of their fantasy role-playing game, Torches and Travelers? And how much magic and madness will follow them back into the real world? With opportunities for actors to try on both real world and fantasy characters, Critical Hit is an opportunity for students in this age group to stretch their range while deepening their understanding of what goes into making a musical.

Next Stage Actors
Students in the class will be immersed in theatrical scene work with their peers in the interest of building acting skills. Dig into the deeper principles of acting such as motivation, tactics, committing to a character, and as always, an emphasis on storytelling. Students will be grouped with other actors as they rehearse age-appropriate scenes and monologues in preparation for an in-class showcase at the end of the last class day.

Next Stage Singers
Middle school students! Learn the basics of singing healthily in a musical theatre setting. Develop your voice's unique tone and style while exploring musical theatre standards alongside newer works and beloved pieces from the pop culture canon. While students are never forced to sing alone before they're ready, solo work is a key piece of this class. (Our Young Singers class is an excellent prerequisite to prepare students are not ready for this step). This class culminates in a showcase on the last day so students can share what they've learned with family and friends.

Middle School Movers and Shakers, this one is just for you! Continue to build your dance vocabulary and knowledge through the lens of telling stories through musical theatre. Review dance basics, such as cadence and rhythm, using stillness to amplify movement, and build new skills as the class works together on combos that tell familiar stories from the genre.
