See Animals Enjoy Holiday Treats!

With the holiday season in full swing, we're excited to announce “Joy to the Animals!” Come spend your holidays at the Zoo all season long. On December 17th and 18th, see our animals receive a variety of holiday-themed enrichment, including presents, Christmas trees and more!  And  don’t forget that we are open every day in December, including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!

Did you know that nearly a third of our animals are rescued animals? Many of our most iconic residents, like bears Kachina, Kiona, Juneau and Valdez, are the result of SF Zoo stepping in and saving animals from euthanasia. Celebrating Evita and Angelo on World Anteater Day

Earlier this week, we celebrated our very own giant anteaters, Evita and Angelo on World Anteater Day. Giant anteaters are the largest of the four anteater species and are native to the swamps, grasslands and humid forests from southern Mexico to northern Argentina. They are listed as Vulnerable  by the IUCN and while they are widespread geographically, there are reports from many parts of their range that they have been locally exterminated. Our lemurs enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiving feast last week. Their yummy meal included turkey made of leafeater biscuit, mushrooms, endive, brussel sprouts, roasted pumpkin and jello in the cups!
