Updates, news and events in San Francisco parks   Highlights, News & Announcements World Cup Final Viewing Party on the JFK Promenade on December 18 The World Cup final match has been set! Join us on the JFK Promenade in Golden Gate Park on Sunday, December 18 at 6:30 a.m. to watch Argentina face off against France, the reigning World Cup champs. Enjoy food, music and family-friendly activities. Witness if Lionel Messi caps his illustrious career with an Argentinian championship, or if Kylian Mbappe and France continue their World Cup dominance.   Street Soccer USA and the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department have been hosting free public viewing parties for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. They take place at San Francisco locations including Civic Center Plaza, The Crossing at East Cut, Union Square Plaza, and the JFK Promenade in Golden Gate Park. World Cup SF   2022 Greenager Class Graduates, Celebrates Accomplishments Congratulations to our 2022 Greenager class, which celebrated at the Lake Merced Boathouse their accomplishments from the past year. These 22 graduates volunteered more than 2,200 hours to serve their communities, while going on fun adventures including kayaking, sailing, ropes course team building and more. Thank you for your contributions to our parks this past year and we look forward to your continued growth and leadership in our San Francisco community and beyond! Youth Employment   Golden Gate Bandshell Concert Series Wraps Up 2022 Season Last week, we wrapped up the 2022 concert season at the Golden Gate Park Bandshell. Thank you to everyone who came out to catch live music and performances at this iconic facility in Golden Gate Park. The lineup of performers were diverse and local, with occasional international flourishes, and featured rock bands and singer/songwriters, R&B, soul, jazz, big band musicians, string ensembles, dancers, homegrown stars and more. A special thanks to these performers, as well to our partners, the San Francisco Parks Alliance and Illuminate SF for making these shows happen. We look forward to getting back on stage in 2023! Golden Gate Bandshell   Lincoln Mustangs Win their Third State Football Championship Congratulations to the Lincoln Mustangs for winning the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Division 7-A Championship this past weekend at Kezar Stadium. The Mustangs handily defeated the Crenshaw Cougars 54-6 for their third state championship! Read the game wrap-up from Scorebook Live at the link below. Lincoln Wins State Championship   2023 Camp Mather Lottery Open through January 6 We're excited to share that the Camp Mather lottery is open and will run through Friday, January 6 of 2023. Family Camp will run in weeklong sessions from June 4 through August 19, with Inclusion Week from July 30 to August 5. To register for the lottery, you will need a Rec and Park account. If you don’t have an account, you can create one at sfrecpark.org/register or call us at (628) 652-2900 for assistance. Registrants will need to upload a verification of San Francisco residency after a lottery application has been submitted, with the deadline for this on January 6, 2023. Camp Mather   Japantown History Mural Project Community Meeting on December 15 The San Francisco Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL), working with the artistic team of MissionArt415 will create a mural on the exterior wall facing Geary Boulevard at the entrance to the Peace Plaza. The mural will depict the history of San Francisco's Japantown, celebrating 115 years, and artfully create images of persons, places and events that will tell the story of one of the three remaining Japantowns in the U.S. Join the JACL for a series of community meetings to provide guidance for this project, with the next on Thursday, December 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the National Japanese American Historical Society (1684 Post Street). JACL Mural Project   SFUSD Enrollment: Calling all TK and Kindergarten Students It’s time to apply for kindergarten and transitional kindergarten with the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD). The deadline to apply for the 2023-24 school year is Friday, February 3 of 2023. Apply by this date to ensure a spot on your list.   Applying is just a few simple steps: Create a list of schools. SFUSD has a few tools to help you do this, including the Enrollment Guide and the School Finder. You can also sign up for school tours at sfusd.edu/tours.  Apply online at portal.sfusd.edu, or ask for a paper application by calling (415) 241-6085. Make sure you submit your application and required documents by February 3, 2023!  If you have any questions or need any help, please reach out to the SFUSD Educational Placement Center (EPC) at (415) 241-6085 or enrollinschool at sfusd.edu. If you’d like to visit in person, the EPC office at 555 Franklin Street is open Monday through from Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the Bayview office at 1520 Oakdale Avenue is open Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.   100 Things to Do in Nature in San Francisco San Francisco Children and Nature recently published its list of 100 ideas for outdoor fun in the city. From finding 365 degree views of the city at Mt. Davidson to cardboard box sledding at Youngblood-Coleman Playground, there's something for everyone outdoors in San Francisco. There will also be donation bins for the San Francisco Fire Department's annual toy drive so bring a new unwrapped toy. See you dockside!  Marina Holiday Event   5th Annual People's Holiday Tree Lighting on December 16 Join the Tenderloin People's Congress on Friday, December 16 for the fifth annual holiday tree lighting ceremony at Boeddeker Park (246 Eddy Street) beginning at 5 p.m. There will be music, live entertainment, special guests and more. Registration Page   Golden State Ducks Wheelchair Power Soccer Team We're proud to share San Francisco's newest team, the Golden State Ducks! This wheelchair power soccer team is based at Gene Friend Recreation Center (270 6th Street) through a collaboration between Rec and Park and Bay Area Outreach and Recreation Program (BORP). Power soccer is a sport for people with physical disabilities, played with specially made power wheelchairs and metal foot guards. The current session is running through Saturday, December 17 and picks back up in 2023 on Saturday, January 7. For more information and to register, click the link below.
