Updates, news and events in San Francisco parks Highlights, News & Announcements India Basin Shoreline Park Hosts Toy Giveaway for the Community Last week, the A. Philip Randolph Institute (APRI) hosted its India Basin Holiday in the Park Toy Giveaway at India Basin Shoreline Park, with support from community partners and the India Basin Waterfront Project. More than 150 families picked out toys, enjoyed music and refreshments, and participated in a raffle and other fun activities. In addition to the toy giveaway, we also held a special ceremony for the newly painted India Basin Shoreline Park hypecourt: a colorful, graphic mural installed on the surface of the park’s recently resurfaced basketball court. The artist behind the hypecourt’s mural is Nina Fabunmi, a local artist who is a part of the Hunters Point Shipyard Artists community. She led a cohort of five local youth from Bayview-Hunters Point (BVHP) to create several designs that reflected themselves, with the final one being chosen by the community. The giveaway and hypecourt were made possible by the India Basin Waterfront Park project and its equitable development plan: the blueprint to ensure we deliver a park designed by and for the BVHP community. The project is a partnership between APRI, the San Francisco Parks Alliance, Trust for Public Land and the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department. Nomadic Lives Chinatown Residents Visit Golden Gate Park through Community Shuttle Earlier this month, a group of residents from Chinatown, coordinated by the Chinatown Community Development Center, visited Golden Gate Park through our Community Shuttle Program. The program grew out of community feedback gathered during the extensive outreach process of the Golden Gate Park Access and Safety Program. With admission free, the attendees visited the SkyStar Wheel, Monumental Reckoning, de Young Museum, Japanese Tea Garden, and the Conservatory of Flowers. They also received extra tickets for the SkyStar Wheel to share with members of their community who couldn't attend. Our Video of the Week shares some of the Community Shuttle Program's 2022 highlights, and how it increases accessibility to Golden Gate Park for communities throughout the city. We look forward to seeing this group with their families and friends back in the park soon!
