Enjoy a Craft or Adopt a Tiger to Celebrate Year of the Tiger!

Happy Lunar New Year! If you plan to visit the Zoo to see our very own Sumatran tiger, Leanne, our Interpretive Ambassadors will be available at Cat Kingdom to answer all your tiger questions on Saturday and Sunday, February 5- 6 and 12-13 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. You can also adopt (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=858afc59ff&e=7683a9aed3) your very own tiger or gift it for that special tiger lover in your life. All of the proceeds raised from our adopt program go directly to benefit our animals!
Free cheese while supplies last!

On Saturday, February 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., our friends from Marin French Cheese Co., the country’s oldest cheese company and makers of handmade, artisan cheeses, will be giving out full samples of their famous French cheese, while supplies lasts. Cheese units are limited to one per household, for your enjoyment at home.

Getting Through the Terrible Twos
Stanford Children’s Health pediatrician Julia Pederson (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=4c3bd96d93&e=7683a9aed3) , MD offers some tips to deal with your child’s tantrums. Tantrums typically start in the toddler years. Most children experience them between 15 months and 3 years of age when toddlers are learning to interact with the world around them and handle some big feelings for the first time. It's important to remember that tantrums are a normal, even healthy part of growing up.

Though tantrums can be triggered by almost anything, Dr. Pederson says one of the biggest causes is a change in routine, like starting day care. Anytime your child is hungry, tired, or cranky, you can also expect an uptick in tantrums.

Some strategies for navigating this challenge:
* Take a breath before you react.
* Meet your child at their level.
* Acknowledge their feelings.
* Offer them a choice between two options.
* Pick your battles.
* Redirect them to another activity.
* Practice active reflection after the tantrum ends.

Earlier this week, we celebrated International Zebra Day! We are home to three zebras, Diamond, Gigi and Coco. They are often hanging out in the Savanna with giraffe, Sarah, who befriended them when she was a calf and still hangs out with them seven years later and 2,000 pounds heavier.
