Updates, news and events in San Francisco parks   EcoCenter Celebrates its 12th Anniversary  We celebrated the 12th anniversary of the EcoCenter in Heron's Head Park this past weekend! There were a number of outdoor activities from beekeeping to kayaking, as well as community resources, performances and more. A special thanks to the Port of San Francisco, San Francisco Parks Alliance and CEMEX for making this event possible. Thank you as well as to all of our community partners who have made the EcoCenter a natural oasis for the neighborhood and hub for outdoor learning and gathering for 12 years! EcoCenter in Heron's Head Park   William Hammond Hall Awards Recognizes 12 Rec and Park Employees Last week, we along with LiUNA!, Local 261, UA Local 38, Plumbers & Pipefitters, and the San Francisco Building and Construction Trades Council recognized 12 of our staff members for their excellent work in stewarding our city’s parkland at the 14th Annual William Hammond Hall Awards. We named this after Hall for his vision for public parks and his understanding of how parks improve our health, happiness, and sense of community. Congratulations to our award winners, and thank you for all that you do for San Francisco and our parks!   Due South Concert Series Returning to Jerry Garcia Amphitheater San Francisco Parks Alliance and Noise Pop announced the return of Due South, a free outdoor concert series taking place at the historic Jerry Garcia Amphitheater in McLaren Park. First launched in the summer of 2019, the return of this concert series has been made possible by the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, District 11 Supervisor Ahsha Safaí, and the Office of Economic & Workforce Development.    This year's series will feature a diverse lineup of contemporary talent, celebrating the cultures and communities that surround McLaren Park and its neighboring districts. All three concerts in the series are free and open to the public, taking place on the following Saturdays: August 27, September 17, and October 8. Attendees can expect to enjoy live music, local eats, and neighborhood fun from 2 to 6 p.m. at each event, as well as free bike valet services from the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition. For more information, click the link below.  Due South   Martin Luther King Jr. Pool Closed for Repairs Martin Luther King Jr. Pool is currently closed for facility repairs. We anticipate having a repair timeline and reopening date in the near future. Check back for updates by visiting the the facility's webpage at the link below.  MLK Pool   "Art & Pride 2022-Age of A-QUEER-IUS" at Harvey Milk Photo Center As we wrap up Pride Month, be sure to check out Art & Pride 2022 Age of A-QUEER-IUS, which runs through July 14, 2022 at the Harvey Milk Photo Center (50 Scott Street). Harvey Milk Photo Center   Golden Gate Bandshell Shows on July 1, 3 and 6 Join us for FREE shows at the Golden Gate Bandshell this week. Kick-off July with Soul/Jazz/R&B Happy Hour featuring the Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra featuring Terrie Odabi on Friday, July 1 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. On July 3, we have Reggae Sundays featuring DJs Irie Dole and Guidance with special guests Deejay Theory from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.   Next week, we have a special Market to Bandshell show on July 6 beginning at 4 p.m. featuring Ancheta Becker, Howard Simon and Paul Weiss, and Brother Spellbinder. GGP Bandshell   Golden Gate Park Band Shows: American as Apple Pie on July 3 and 4 Join the Golden Gate Park Band for a concert series on Sundays throughout the summer at the Golden Gate Bandshell. The next show, American as Apple Pie, features Conductor German Gonzalez from 1 to 2:45 p.m. on Sunday July 3 and Monday July, 4. Golden Gate Park Band   Swing into Stories Comes to Garfield Playground July 5 The San Francisco Public Library's (SFPL) YouthMobile is coming to the park! Movement and play are essential building blocks in fostering literacy and a love of reading and the SFPL is bringing stories and song to San Francisco's parks through its Swing into Stories program. It takes place at a different park each Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The next will take place on July 5 at Garfield Playground (Treat and 26th streets). Join us for a high-energy storytime in our beautiful outdoors!  The YouthMobile offers a diverse selection of children’s library materials available for check-out with an SFPL library card. From the city’s only kid-focused bookmobile, they circulate materials, create library cards and provide the public with information about library services and programs. Swing into Stories   Rose Arrangement Demo for Beginners in Golden Gate Park on July 10 Join the San Francisco Rose Society on Sunday, July 10 from 1 to 2 p.m. for its free arrangement demo for beginners workshop at the Rose Garden in Golden Gate Park. Participants will learn how to make beautiful rose arrangements from Barbara Gordon, a rosarian as well as an American Rose Society arrangement and horticulture judge. Buena Vista Park Improvement Project Virtual Community Meeting Link on July 12 at 5:30 p.m.  11th and Natoma New Park Project  Virtual Community Meeting Link on July 20 at 5:30 p.m.    McLaren Park Trail Walk Community Meeting on July 14 We are hosting a second trail walk on Thursday, July 14 beginning at 8:30 a.m. to share proposed trail improvements, highlight natural resources, and hear signage suggestions for the McLaren Park Trails Improvement Project. Meet at the McLaren Park Upper Reservoir (231 John F Shelley Drive). The walk will take approximately 90 minutes and traverse 2-2.5 miles of challenging terrain. Come dressed for variable weather, with sun protection, a water bottle, and sturdy footwear. For more information, click the link below.  McLaren Park Trail Walk   Summer Play Day at Bayview/KC Jones Playground on July 20 Join us for the return of our annual Summer Play Day on Wednesday, July 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bayview/KC Jones Playground (3rd Street and Armstrong Avenue). The event will feature FREE, fun activities for kids including carnival rides, baseball, soccer, live entertainment, food, the mobile rec rock wall and more!
