10th Anniversary of Stanford Children's Health Care Network

“I’ve worked with great teams at leading health care systems across the country, but my five months here have been the most inspiring. Caring for children is among the highest callings we can have, and our expansive practices have made quality care accessible to families throughout the Bay Area,” said Chantal Volel-Torres, senior vice present, chief administrative officer of Faculty Practices and CEO of Packard Children’s Health Alliance. Back in 2018, we opened the California Conservation Corridor (CCC) to highlight the important work that our Conservation Team does behind-the-scenes to help save California's native species. In partnership with the AZA’s Zoo-Park Partnership for America’s Keystone Wildlife program, we work with Yosemite National Park in restoring sustainable habitats and wildlife populations for a variety of animals, like red-legged frogs. The California Conservation Corridor provides our guests the opportunity to see these animals up-close.

Make sure to stop by the CCC on your next visit to learn how we are working to save other species, like western-pond turtles, and protect California’s wild places! Working together, we can protect the diversity of California through restoration and preservation of key biodiverse areas such as our open spaces, state and national parks and conservation corridors. Together we can make sure our California wildlife have a bright future! Come learn how!
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT...

Primate staff recently provided male chimpanzee, “Gombus,” with a squeaky new toy. Gombus is extremely noise sensitive. Just like humans, chimpanzees are individuals with varying sensitivities, likes and dislikes. Chimpanzee hearing is comparable to that of humans, but they are more sensitive to higher frequencies, which they hear at an octave higher than humans.

One of the ways we care for and enrich our chimpanzee troop is by offering them choice and control over their day. With the squeaky dog toy, we offered audible enrichment that the chimpanzees could choose to interact with on their own terms. Because he was in control of the noise – Gombus clearly loved it as you can see here (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=249d416855&e=7683a9aed3) .

As a friendly reminder, even though he enjoyed the audible enrichment, guests should still be respectful and quiet around the chimps.
