Remembering Leanne, our Sumatran tiger

We are heartbroken to share the loss of our 18-year-old Sumatran tiger, Leanne, the matriarch of our tiger breeding program. With only 400-600 Sumatran tigers remaining in the wild, Leanne was an important ambassador of this critically endangered species. Over her 15-year residency here, she was a visitor and staff favorite, playing with her green ball and calmly allowing ultrasounds during her pregnancy.  Leanne leaves us as a great-grandmother and will be dearly missed!
Expedition Snow Leopard: Now Open!

"Expedition Snow Leopard" is officially open, housing our male snow leopard, Jimmy G, and his twin offspring cubs.  The habitat expansion features rocky outcrops that replicate the snow leopards' native range in South and Central Asia. As you'll discover, snow leopards love to climb, and the new habitat provides them elevated platforms for observing from high perspectives. We are proud to continue to tell the important story of the snow leopard's plight in the wild  and, through our breeding program, ensure a future for these magnificent cats.
*Due to this species vulnerability to COVID-19, SF Zoo respectfully requests face coverings while in the snow leopard vicinity.
Education News: Spring Bilingual Spanish Camp (Saturdays!)

Hola!  We are thrilled to provide our new Spring Bilingual Spanish Camp for youths on Saturdays from 10 -2. Education content will be presented in Spanish, and campers will learn about wild animals and their conservation status as well as gain limited animal husbandry.
* Session 1: April 2, 9, 16 & 23
* Session 2: April 30, May 7, 14 & 21

Classes are free and will include a Zoo tour, animal encounters, art projects and nature play.  (Participants must be fully vaccinated and show proof of vaccination.)  First come, first served!

Conservation News
As a conservation organization, SF Zoo & Gardens is proud to partner with Replate (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=089cfc8d70&e=7683a9aed3) , a technology-base social enterprise that connects and delivers surplus food from businesses to communities in need. We aim to lower waste by donating unsold prepared food, leftover catered meals and frozen food items. As a part of its service, Replate provides statistics of both environmental and community impact, and so far, SF Zoo has donated 220 lbs. of food, saving 60,200 gallons of water, diverting 451 pounds of CO2, and serving 183 meals to families in need! Thank you. Replate, for helping us eliminate food waste and give back to our community at the same time!
You're Invited to ZooFest on May 13!
San Francisco Zoological Society's annual gala, ZooFest, will take place on Friday, May 13, 2022. As the Zoo's most important fundraising event, we're excited to welcome guests back to celebrate in person during "An Evening at the Oasis." Guests will be treated to a sumptuous dinner catered by McCall’s and to a special musical performance by Starship, featuring the amazing Mickey Thomas!

The COVID-19 pandemic has created unprecedented needs at the Zoo and your support is more important than ever. All of the proceeds from ZooFest go towards underwriting the Zoological Society's animal care general operating costs and our youth education and outreach programs.  Get ready for a fun night benefitting a great cause! There is only two more week to take advantage of early bird pricing, which ends on March 31, 2022.
