On April 26th San Francisco’s Kindergarten to College (K2C) Program celebrated its anniversary and reached $11 million dollars in savings! Governor Gavin Newsom, California Treasurer Fiona Ma, Mayor London Breed, Treasurer José Cisneros, along with guests from around the country joined to celebrate these exciting milestones.
Deposit Day
The celebration kicked off with a class of 1st graders from Bryant Elementary School visiting San Francisco City Hall and depositing the $11 millionth dollar into their Kindergarten to College savings accounts. They were greeted by state and local leaders who spoke to them about the importance of saving for college and helped the students with their deposits.
Press Conference
At a press conference coinciding with Deposit Day, state and local leaders spoke powerfully about the importance of CSA programs, upcoming statewide investments, and the essential partnership between state and local programs working together to empower our student's pathway to college. One of the earliest K2C program participants, Gateway High School 11th grader, Thailyah Miller shared remarks about her own story and aspirations on her personal journey in saving for college. Anniversary Celebration
Later that day, the festivities continued with a K2C Anniversary Celebration in the San Francisco War Memorial Green Room. Governor Newsom gave a moving keynote speech about the success of the program since he and Treasurer Cisneros founded K2C and spoke about how imperative it is to do more for families everywhere so our students have a brighter future. The program featured community voices, including a panel of K2C students and parents sharing their college aspirations and dreams for the future. K2C also released its latest report outlining successes and lessons learned from our Equity Incentive (https://t.e2ma.net/click/4qgyze/4acsnql/s5j9dl), as well as premiered a new video short about the program, A Future Worth Saving For, which you can watch below.

The day's celebration has ended, but that doesn't mean the fun is! You can still experience this special program by watching our live recording here (https://t.e2ma.net/click/4qgyze/4acsnql/oql9dl).
Reception
We wrapped the celebration with a reception including many of the founding forces behind K2C. Participants were able to mingle, take pictures and enjoy some fantastic food that was catered by two of K2C's very own family participants, Teranga and Estrellita’s Snacks. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us on this special day.
About K2C
Founded in 2011 by then-San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and Treasurer José Cisneros, K2C automatically opens a savings account seeded with $50 in public funds for every child entering kindergarten in SF’s public schools, putting students on a path to college from their first day of school. There are nearly 50,000 K2C participants, who as of today have $11 Million saved for post-secondary education. San Francisco’s K2C program has been replicated across the country, with 123 active College Savings Account programs reaching more than 1.2 million children in 39 states, including municipal programs in Oakland, Los Angeles, and New York City, and statewide programs in Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Maine.
