ZooFest 2022: Online Silent Auction

Beautiful New Pocket Gardens

Our gardens thrive in the Spring, and you can see the fruits of our outstanding Horticulture Team's labor as they create new pocket gardens in previously unplanted areas. Beautiful plantings can now be seen on the side of the Leaping Lemur Café and the exterior of the orangutan yards. Do you have a favorite pocket garden at SF Zoo? Share with us on social media!
The Family Farm is Open!

We are so excited that the Fisher Family Farm is officially open! The contact yard is open Monday-Thursday from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. and Friday-Sunday from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Our goats, pigs, alpaca, steer and horses are excited to see you!

Caring for Your Child's Skin

Pediatrician Nora Fahden, MD, with Stanford Children’s Health, provides tips for parents about their child’s skin health, and when to seek a medical professional’s help for conditions such as eczema, hives or warts.

The main symptom of eczema is itchiness, “if it’s not itchy then it’s not eczema.” Though hives are also an itchy rash they look different from eczema, Dr. Fahden says. She warns, however, if your child has raised itchy hives, check for other symptoms like a swollen face, trouble breathing, and vomiting–those could be signs of a serious allergic reaction, and call 911 immediately.

A Gentle Skin Care Routine for Kids:
* Apply sunscreen with SPF 30 everyday
* Take a warm bath with plain soap every night
* Moisturize with a fragrance-free cream or ointment

During breeding season, which is from April - September, peacocks perform elaborate courtship displays and emit loud, high-pitched calls in order to attract peahens. Studies show that males with more impressive displays, long and healthy train feathers, and more eyespots are favored among females.
