Happy Endangered Species Day

Endangered Species Day provides us the opportunity to come together to preserve and save endangered species and their habitats. San Francisco Zoo & Gardens is a safe haven for many amazing ambassadors of their endangered species and today we reflect on the conservation stories of hope, like re-establishing the bald eagle and Mexican gray wolf populations from the brink of extinction, while understanding there are still many species that need our help. Black rhinos, Bornean orangutans and western lowland gorillas are three critically endangered species we have here at SF Zoo, and a visit to see these animals up-close provides you an opportunity to learn about these magnificent creatures and the wild places they call home. Thanks to your continued support, you make the future possible for these endangered species!
Summer Leadership Program for Teens

Students aged 14+ are invited to apply to the Leadership Fellows program (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=50b90311f0&e=7683a9aed3) . In addition to assisting with Zoo Camp, Fellows will gain real-world leadership skills in topics such as resume building & interviewing, public speaking, goal setting, effective communication, and more. Gorillas on the Line Extended Through September

We're excited to announce that we have extended the Gorillas on the Line (GOTL) campaign through September!  Please donate your old cell phones, tablets, chargers and other small electronics in the Membership Office. These devices contain a mineral called coltan which is mined in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo, which is also pristine gorilla habitat. Recycling old cell phones helps reduce the demand for coltan which protects gorillas and humans alike. We are hoping to collect 2,500 devices by September 1st! IN CASE YOU MISSED IT...

We celebrated Bititi's 19th birthday on May 11 with a special "Biti-tea Party!" Bititi celebrated with her herd mates Barbro, Sarah, Ingrid and Eve. They enjoyed cinnamon and banana tea sandwiches, tea cups of carrots and banana slices, and table decorations made from roses, canna and banana leaves and acacia branches. Huge kudos to our animal care team for their creativity and thoughtfulness in celebrating Bititi!
