Dear Friends of SF Zoo & Gardens,

Every day, I am honored and humbled by our work with endangered species, but after hearing the challenges faced by fellow Zoos in Ukraine, I am more thankful than ever for the resiliency of Zoos, from the challenges of caring for animals during a (continuing) pandemic or, more recently, maintaining safety protocols to defend against an avian flu. Despite these challenges, we are very proud that we have been able to serve the community, partner with community-based organizations and even offer camp spots for refugee children. And we continue to provide safe spaces for animals on the brink of extinction, including our new male Komodo dragon and of course, “Udo,” our pygmy hippo!

On this Thanksgiving, I thank and applaud our hard-working staff, Board, Emeritus, Docents and you, our generous community, for helping to make San Francisco Zoo & Gardens what it is. All of us here wish you and your families a healthy and happy Thanksgiving. As a friendly reminder, we are open 365 days a year including Thanksgiving and Christmas. Our animals will receive various Thanksgiving-themed enrichment during "Feasts for the Beasts" this Thanksgiving Day and we hope you come out for a visit to enjoy the celebrations.
