Updates, news and events in San Francisco parks   Happy Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving offers the opportunity to reflect upon the past year and inspires our gratitude for all the positive developments and the extraordinary people who’ve made them happen. This year, as our city and our department continue to bounce back from the pandemic, we’ve seen a rebirth and renewal of activity in our parks. From Outside Lands and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass to Camp Mather and summer day camps, people have returned to our parks to party together, play together and build community together. India Basin Waterfront Park, a once-in-a-generation environmental justice initiative, is now under construction. With the community guiding us, this capital project will transform the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood and create a spectacular waterfront park destination. The pandemic, which necessitated the closure of JFK Drive and the creation of more open space, has given rise to the new, permanent car-free JFK Promenade, where thousands of families and park visitors mingle, play, exercise, and enjoy art, music and games. This vibrant community space is where we created new memories with our Halloween Haunt, and where we’ll revisit beloved traditions with our Tree Lighting on December 1. Thousands of people are celebrating recreation, competition, and diverse cultures at our outdoor World Cup watch parties around the city. Union Square and Civic Center Plaza are alive with ice skating, roller disco, and holiday events. None of this would’ve been possible without the efforts of our staff, from gardeners, structural maintenance crews, custodians and park rangers to our recreation, capital, partnerships and administration teams. We are grateful to them for making our park system one of the best in the country. We are also thankful to all of our parkgoers who enjoy and enhance our parks daily, whether through advocacy or activation. Our parks are only as good as the people who use and support them. We invite you to get outside with your loved ones this Thanksgiving weekend, and check out some of the 100 Things to Do in Nature in our city. Organized by San Francisco Children and Nature, you can find this citywide collaborative's expansive list at the link below. Note that the San Francisco Botanical Garden is FREE to everybody on Thanksgiving Day from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. to explore the fragrant plant area and more! Thank you all for loving our parks and have a Happy Thanksgiving. 100 Things to Do in Nature     San Francisco Recreation and Parks | sfrecpark.org SF Recreation and Parks | McLaren Lodge-Golden Gate Park, 501 Stanyan Street, San Francisco , CA 94117 Unsubscribe house at digitalkingdom.org Constant Contact Data Notice Sent by rpdinfo at sfgov.org powered by Try email marketing for free today!
