Updates, news and events in San Francisco parks   Highlights, News & Announcements LPGA Tour Coming to Harding Park in 2023 We’re proud to share that TPC Harding Park will host the Hanwha LIFEPLUS International Crown, as part of the LPGA tour, in May 2023. Special thanks to LPGA Tour players Mina Harigae and So Yeon Ryu for helping make the announcement earlier this week. For more information, click the link below. LPGA Tour at Harding Park   Activities and Updates for the JFK Promenade We have been busy enhancing the JFK Promenade for park users! Inspired by the San Francisco Botanical Garden's Flower Piano, we have installed pianos along the promenade. Let your al fresco piano playing catch the rhythms of the park! We've also completed our colorful new welcome area at Kezar Drive! This area will open for bike and pedestrian traffic starting Thursday, October 13, while the Golden Gate Park Shuttle will return to its normal stops at McLaren Lodge and Haight Street. Our busking program will come to the promenade starting on October 13. In addition, we'll have live music through Music Mosey throughout the weekend, as well as the San Francisco Public Library's Bookmobile and Randall Museum pop-up activities on Saturday, October 15 from noon to 4 p.m. at Pompei Circle next to the Conservatory Valley lawn. For more information, click the link below. JFK Promenade   Volunteers Install Nature Play Space at Randolph & Bright Mini Park We had a great build day this past Saturday at Randolph and Bright Mini Park and Brotherhood Greenway. The event featured 80 community volunteers, including District 11 Supervisor Ahsha Safai, and was in partnership with Rebuilding Together SF, the Department of Public Works, Friends of OMI Mini Parks, Swinerton, and the California Native Plant Society - Yerba Buena chapter. The volunteers helped install a small nature play space, artwork, and mulch, while improving existing planters and native plants. Most of the logs came from the Presidio of San Francisco and through Arborist Now. A special thanks to the volunteers and supporters who made these improvements possible!    EPA Leadership Visits India Basin Waterfront Park Earlier this week, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Deputy Administrator Janet McCabe, along with Pacific Southwest Region Administrator Martha Guzman, visited the future park site at 900 Innes Avenue. This site is a part of the India Basin Waterfront Park Project, and recently completed its remediation. A special thanks to the EPA for supporting this environmental cleanup, and we look forward to welcoming you back when we open the park! Learn more about the project at the link below. India Basin Waterfront Park   Pool Closures for Staff Training on October 15 All of our pools will be closed on Saturday, October 15, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for a staff training. We will resume our normal aquatics schedule in the afternoon. For more information and pool phone numbers, visit our aquatics page at the link below. Rec and Park Pools   People of the Promenade in Golden Gate Park Golden Gate Park is practically Claire’s backyard, since she lives just blocks away with her son Calvin and her husband. From big events like Flower Piano and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, to bike rides along the JFK Promenade, Claire and her family are at the park almost daily. “We’re pretty caught up with what’s going on with the park, so we hit all the events pretty much,” she said. “We look online every week to see what there is to do.” And thanks to the temporary art installations going on up along the JFK Promenade, Claire and her family are at the park even more now. Calvin, who is about to turn 2 years old, seems to be fascinated by the whimsical Doggie Diner heads. “We’re loving all the new artwork, so it’s a bit of an excuse for us to walk JFK a little bit more,” Claire said. People of the Promenade is a series of short stories, based on conversations with parkgoers we’ve met along car-free JFK Drive in Golden Gate Park. Learn more about the promenade, including upcoming activations and events, at the link below. JFK Promenade   Call for Artists for India Basin Waterfront Park - Deadline October 14 The San Francisco Arts Commission is looking for artists and artist teams to submit public art proposals for the India Basin Waterfront Park Project at India Basin Shoreline Park. Proposals for this public art opportunity may range from a single, large sculpture to a series of smaller, human-scale sculptures located along the walking paths through the current India Basin Shoreline Park site. Artwork should be inspired by and responsive to both the site and the proposed park design, including its natural habitats, physical landscape, site history, sustainability, and program. It should also be a point of discovery and have a cohesive narrative experience along trails of the park; serve as an asset for the community and expression of neighborhood identity; and provide a community benefit, which includes providing opportunities for artists with a meaningful connection to the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood in San Francisco. For more information and to begin the application process, click the link below. Monuments and Memorials   October is Zero Waste Month October’s sunny skies and green grass mean its time for a picnic. It’s also Zero Waste Month, so we hope you’ll reduce single use plastics and choose to reuse for picnics, parks and our planet. By reducing consumption of single-use plastics, you help break free from forever petrochemicals. Recycling is not the answer, rethinking our role in our ecosystem is. We challenge you to bring your own containers and refuse disposables. See what a world of difference it can make! When buying food, choose products with little or no plastic packaging If you order food from a restaurant, bring your own containers for take-out and leftovers Don’t deal with plastic cutlery – a real fork and metal straw are great items to keep in your bag Bring your own cup for coffee is back, and many cafes offer a discount A reusable water bottle keeps your drinks cooler and without waste.    Upcoming Events Civic Center Plaza Lunchtime Music Series Enjoy these first days of autumn with a free lunchtime concert in front of City Hall!
