Meet Udo: A Pygmy Hippo with a BIG Personality!

Our new pygmy hippo has a name: "Udo," which means "peace" in Igbo, a native language of Western Africa. Pygmy hippos are endangered in the wild, a victim of habitat loss and illegal hunting.  Our Udo is acclimating well to his new home near our other endangered African species, including African lions and black rhino. He especially loves the meadow in his habitat where he eats the African honeysuckle that grows there. Normally a shy species, our Udo already is charming everyone, as he engages with Zoo visitors while swimming in his new pool!  Come visit Udo and our animals of Africa!
Clancy's Pumpkin Patch Returns With Discounts for Zoo Members

Clancy’s Pumpkin Patch has returned with a location right outside of SF Zoo! After a full day of fun at the zoo, visit Clancy’s to pick out your favorite pumpkins for carving, decorating and baking. Zoo members and guests receive a 10% discount when they show a SF Zoo ticket or membership card!
Join us October 22-23 and 29-30 as we transform the Playfield Café and Lawn to the Zoo Brew Haus. We will pour a great selection of brews, including our very own Zoo Beer that is crafted at Strike Brewing, and cook up a full smorgasbord of German-inspired dishes. Bring a picnic blanket to enjoy your lunch on the lawn and dine to the upbeat sounds of music from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Boo at the Zoo Returns on October 29-30

Celebrate a family- friendly Halloween with us during Boo at the Zoo (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=2caaab6cb7&e=7683a9aed3) on October 29 and 30.  See the animals enjoy special Halloween-themed enrichment and pick up a bag of candy on your way out. At noon on each event day, participate in a fun costume parade and contest with prizes awarded for the top three in these categories: Best Costume, Best Family Costume and Best Animal Costume. The costume parade and contest will begin at the flamingo habitat and end at the Friend Family Playground. See you there!
Hispanic Heritage Month Comes to a Close

Over the past month, we recognized the amazing species native to Latin America on our social media channels during Hispanic Heritage Month. Though this celebratory month is coming to an end, we encourage you to continue to explore our South American region, which showcases the Mexican Gray wolf or the birds and mammals of “La Puente”, which highlights conservation issues of South America.

It's officially pumpkin season at the Zoo and our animals are loving all the gourd-ness!
