ZOO HIGHLIGHTS
Join us as we transform the Playfield Café and Lawn into the Zoo Brew Haus where we will pour a great selection of brews, including our very own Zoo Beer that is crafted at Strike Brewing. We are excited to announce that we will have Zoo Beer merchandise available for purchase, including shirts, sweatshirts, glasses and koozies. Make sure to bring a blanket to enjoy a full smorgasbord of German-inspired dishes and dine to the upbeat sounds of music by the Amato Bralove Combo from 12 p.m.–4 p.m. ZOOtoberfest runs October 22-23 and 29-30.
Celebrate Halloween at Boo at the Zoo
Celebrate a family-friendly Halloween with us during Boo at the Zoo (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=7d2ca75d54&e=7683a9aed3) on October 29 and 30. See the animals enjoy special Halloween-themed enrichment and pick up a bag of candy on your way out. At noon on each event day, participate in a fun costume parade and contest with prizes awarded for the top three in these categories: Best Costume, Best Family Costume and Best Animal Costume. The costume parade and contest will begin at the flamingo habitat and end at the Friend Family Playground. See you there!

World Lemur Day Rummage Sale
Join the American Association of Zoo Keepers San Francisco (AAZKSF) in celebrating World Lemur Day at the first annual “World Lemur Day Rummage Sale.” Our AAZKSF chapter will be co-hosting this fantastic event along with our very own lemur specialist and our neighbors at the Pomeroy Center on Sunday, October 23rd from 2 p.m. - 7 p.m. in the Pomeroy Banquet Hall.
Proceeds from our rummage sale will benefit the conservation organization Lemur Love whose mission is to "protect lemurs, empower women, and further science." Our vision for this event is to uphold our sustainability initiative by reusing and recycling unwanted items, support our local community with reasonably priced second-hand treasures, fundraise for lemurs, and assist in building local capacity for future conservation in Madagascar.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT...
Yesterday was International Sloth Day in which we highlighted the importance of sloth conservation while celebrating the many benefits of sloooooowing down. Sloths move so slowly because they eat only leaves and this type of diet doesn’t provide much energy. Moving slowly through the forests saves energy and helps them to hide from their predators, like jaguars and harpy eagles, though humans are now the most dangerous threat. Roads, power lines, dogs, deforestation and poaching are all major problems for sloths in the wild. You can help to spread awareness by talking about sloths with your friends and family, hosting your own fundraiser for sloth conservation, or reducing your impact on the environment by eating less meat and using less plastic.
