Updates, news and events in San Francisco parks   Highlights, News & Announcements SF Expands Lyft's Bike Share Program into Golden Gate Park We announced earlier this week with Mayor London Breed, District 4 Supervisor Joel Engardio, Lyft, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), and the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition that San Francisco's first-ever bike share stations have been placed in Golden Gate Park. Now in operation, eight Bay Wheels bike share stations will be available for use during Outside Lands Music Festival! This addition is Bay Wheels’ latest expansion to the Sunset neighborhood south of the park, which was announced in May. The five classic bike share stations and seven virtual stations stretch from east of the San Francisco Conservatory of Flowers to the westernmost edge of the park near Ocean Beach. Their installation is expected to further ease congestion around the park and fill a critical gap in the Bay Wheels station network, increasing access to popular destinations like the de Young Museum, California Academy of Sciences, and the Gardens of Golden Gate Park, while encouraging biking for all. Bike share in the park is among many access improvements implemented by Rec & Park and SFMTA since the JFK Promenade became a permanent car-free space. Others include an all-blue space parking lot, the adaptive biking program and expanded free shuttle service. For more information, including bike station locations, click the link below. Bike Share in Golden Gate Park   Rec and Park Installs new Goalphers at Sunset Rec Center New Goalphers have gone up at the Sunset Recreation Center’s basketball courts, meaning more kids will be able to play soccer, roller hockey, and other sports on the blacktop. Earlier this week, we celebrated their installation with San Jose Earthquakes player Jeremy Ebobisse and neighborhood youth. The two 4-foot by 6-foot Goalphers, which are permanent, collapsible goal posts that are installed underneath basketball hoops, were made possible through a partnership with non-profit The Over Under Initiative, which works to increase access to sports in urban neighborhoods, and The Dick's Sporting Goods Foundation, which generously donated $35,000 to fund the court conversion at Sunset Recreation Center. Goalphers were developed and patented by The Over Under Initiative founder and former professional soccer player Kyle Martino years back. The Goalphers give way to the first pop-up street soccer court of its kind in San Francisco’s park system, converting an outdoor basketball court into a multi-sport space within seconds. SF Marina Project   Coyote Pupping Season & Human Footprint Episode on SF Coyotes As we hit the dog days of summer, it means that we're in the midst of coyote pupping season. While coyotes are generally wary of humans, parent coyotes may become territorial if you or your pet stumbles upon their den. To foster a safe coexistence between yourself and our natural neighbors, please take the following precautions: Never feed coyotes or any wildlife Keep dogs on leashes in our parks, unless in a designated off-leash dog play area Only admire coyotes from a distance If you encounter a coyote, slowly back away carrying any small children or pets. Do not run. You may also scare the coyote away by appearing large and making loud noises. If you encounter a coyote or see someone putting out food for a coyote, report it to Animal Care and Control (ACC) at (415) 554-9400, or by email at ACC at sfgov.org. In addition, watch PBS' recent Human Footprint episode, which profiles the urban coyote population in San Francisco. Watch the video at this link from 24:18 to 34:25.
