As your kids are gearing up to open their holiday presents this season, visit the Zoo to see our animal residents enjoy their holiday-themed enrichment! This Saturday & Sunday, December 9 & 10, follow a full schedule of animal treat presentations and watch as they enjoy their special treats! Each day, at 11:30 a.m., see animals up-close and personal during a fun Wildlife Theater presentation. And on Sunday, the first 10 families to line up at the Family Farm can help staff decorate Christmas trees to give to our barnyard animals starting at 10:45 a.m.

Breakfast & Lunch with Santa
There are still slots open for a special Members' breakfast and lunch with Santa Claus!
* Saturday, December 9 - Holiday Lunch with Santa at the Great Hall located at the Lurie Education Building - 12 noon to 1:30 p.m.
* Sunday, December 10 - Breakfast with Santa at the Great Hall located at the Lurie Education Building - 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Reservations are required for the special holiday meals and include a buffet spread with hot cocoa and other beverages. The cost is $30 per adult and $15 per child. Space is limited. To reserve a spot, log into your Member account to reserve directly.

On Sunday, Dec. 10th, we are pleased to welcome our friends from First 5 California (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=f8546a053a&e=7683a9aed3) who will be on site with activities and games for kids to play and win prizes!
Spots Still Available for Drinks, Bites & Zoo Insights
Join us on Saturday, December 16 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for our upcoming Drinks, Bites & Zoo Insights! This event is free to Zoo Members and includes complimentary hors d'oeuvres and adult beverages as we present our guest speaker, Debbie Marrin, Director of of Training and Behavioral Husbandry in the Bernard Osher Foundation Great Hall.. With 48 years of animal care experience, including her last 14 spent here, at SF Zoo, she will share a fascinating look at animal enrichment and training programs. Her presentation will showcase images of our animals enjoying their enrichment as Debbie describes what goes into keeping our animals enriched, and how we teach our animals new behaviors, such as holding still for a vaccination, or getting on a scale to be weighed. Guests will also learn about zoo philosophies and ethics related to our enrichment and training programs.

Sneak Peek This Weekend! Virtual Reality Experience!

Not everyone can journey to Rwanda to see critically endangered mountain gorillas in person, but in the new "Gorilla Trek," you will feel like you're in the presence of these incredible Great apes through an educational, entertaining and inspiring virtual reality experience with a special sneak peek this Sunday.

Up to 12-guests can be seated in a motion platform theater wearing VR goggles offering a completely immersive and interactive film experience. All ages are welcome, Zoo Members receive a discounted price. Each showing is 10-12 minutes in length.
Gorilla Trek Overview
The 360-degree VR documentary follows primatologist Dr. Tara Stoinski of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund on a trip into the dense and unforgiving Volcanoes National Park. Dr. Stroinski leads the VR experience while documenting the family dynamics of a majestic and critically endangered group of mountain gorillas. The film takes guests deep in to the forest where they experience frolicking baby gorillas playing under their mother’s watchful eyes while the alpha silverback protects his family and subordinate males vie for leadership. National Day of the Horse

In honor of National Day of the Horse on Wednesday, December 13, we are offering a Free Day open to San Francisco residents with valid I.D. or utility bill. The Zoo is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

If you haven't visited our Przewalski's horses already, you're in for a treat. These critically endangered equines, an ancient species known as the last truly wild horse because they have never been domesticated, was once listed as extinct in their native Mongolia. The species has seen a recovery thanks to coordinated captive breeding and conservation efforts by accredited zoos and global organizations, and the successful introduction of the species to national parks in both Mongolia and China.
