SF Zoo is Open on December 25th!
December 25th is a great day to visit SF Zoo! Finish opening your presents, gulp down that last bit of hot cocoa, then head to the Zoo with the family for some playtime at the Elinor Friend Playground, take a ride on the Little Puffer miniature steam train, or like Santa here, get onboard a reindeer at the the historic Dentzel Carousel! Zoo hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and you might even see some animals receive special holiday enrichment! Plus visit anytime this holiday season, SF Zoo is open 365 days a year!

50th Anniversary of the Endangered Species Act
December 28th marks the 50th anniversary of the U.S. Endangered Species Act (ESA), which, according to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, was enacted in 1973 to "prevent the loss or harm of endangered and threatened species and to preserve the places they live." Over the course of 50 years, the ESA has proven to be one of the most effective wildlife conservation laws, and has been at the forefront of saving 99 percent of the species - both animals and plants - it protects. In addition to species, like bald eagles, grizzly bears and humpback whales, millions of acres of forests, mountains, rivers, deserts, beaches and oceans - among other biodiverse habitats, have been protected by the ESA. At SF Zoo, you can see protected species such as our Mexican gray wolves and the recently listed wolverine.
