ZOO HIGHLIGHTS
Welcome to a new infant mandrill!

We are thrilled to announce the birth of a mandrill on February 1st! The infant, born to mom "Lulu" and dad "Big Joe,” and is doing well as is mom! They have slowly been introduced to the rest of our group and can now be seen in their habitat. You will most likely see the infant holding on tight to Lulu's chest!  Mandrills are currently listed as vulnerable by the IUCN. Intensive hunting pressure on this species, combined with habitat loss across its range, populations have seen a decline exceeding 30% over the past 30 years. We are proud to be home to these incredible ambassadors who help tell the story of their wild counterparts.

Spring Bilingual Camp: Earth Action Heros

Spring Bilingual Spanish Camp is the perfect place for your animal-loving child! Surrounded by more than 250 species of animals, campers will learn about the wild world of animals and gain an appreciation for our natural world. The 5-week session will run every Saturday from April 1st - May 6th and will be taught in Spanish. Members get a discounted price using the code MEMBERHERO. First 5 California to Visit

We are excited to welcome First 5 of California, a state agency supporting children’s health and wellness, to SF Zoo on February 17th and 18th. F5CA recently rolled out their newest children’s initiative, called “Dragon Breath (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=731bcdf3d0&e=7683a9aed3) ,” which teaches kids to stop and take a deep breath if they feel stressed or anxious. Representatives from First 5 will be on-site to help promote this new initiative. Make sure to stop by the Playground to enjoy the activities that First 5 will set up there.

Earlier this week, our animals were treated to a lot of love on Valentine's Day. Our creative and dedicated animal care team made a variety of love-themed treats including a kissing booth for sifaka, Karen and Neil, and pygmy hippo, Udo, and plenty of heart shaped ice treats for the snow leopards and wolverine.
