K2C 2022 Year in Review!
As we usher in 2023, let's pause to celebrate K2C's accomplishments of the past year.
Anniversary Celebration
In 2022, local leaders and community members gathered to celebrate over 10 years of San Francisco’s Kindergarten to College (K2C) Program, the first universal Child Savings Account program in the country. Founded in 2011 by former San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and Treasurer José Cisneros, the K2C program opens a savings account seeded with $50 in public funds for every child entering kindergarten in SF’s public schools, putting students on a path to college from their first day of school. More than 49,000 students have accounts with K2C amounting to over $11 Million in savings for college across the district!
K2C Deposit Days Highlight
We were so excited to have Bessie Carmichael, Paul Revere, Bryant, Charles Drew, Mission Education Center and Sanchez Elementary join us in 2022 for Deposit Day at City Hall!
What happens during Deposit Day, you ask? On Deposit Day at City Hall, students get to participate in a day of learning about city hall, financial education and depositing money into their K2C account for their bright futures.
Sounds awesome right? If you are a K-12 SFUSD school or teacher that wants to have a Deposit Day for your students, email our Engagement Specialist at k2c at sfgov.org.
150 Scholarship Winners
During Summer 2022, K2C highlighted select colleges each week for six weeks on K2C’s social media and website for students to tour online. Over 400 SFUSD students participated in K2C's Virtual College Tour Contest. Natalia Quesada Marshall, a senior at Mission High School, shared her excitement about touring one of the colleges, "I chose to take a virtual tour of UC Santa Barbara because it has a beautiful campus, is a global leader in the sciences, and both my parents are alumni."
150 students in grades K-12 earned a $100 scholarship in their Kindergarten to College (K2C) account by touring various colleges.
