Updates, news and events in San Francisco parks   Highlights, News & Announcements   Winners of Randall Museum Science Fair Advance More than 100 students from 15 San Francisco public and private schools competed in this year’s annual San Francisco Middle School Science Fair, held between Feb. 28 and March 4. The competition featured four categories: behavioral, environmental, biology, and physical sciences. The winners were announced during last Saturday’s Science Festival at the Randall Museum. The museum has hosted the Middle School Science Fair for 39 years. San Francisco Recreation and Park Department staff organize the event and Randall Museum Friends raise funds to purchase the supplies and other amenities needed to run the fair. Winners will now move on to the Golden Gate STEM Fair. Their projects will be displayed March 18 at the Bay Model Visitor Center in Sausalito from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students earning top spots will then move on to the California State Science Fair and the International Science and Engineering Fair. For more information, click the link below. Randall Museum Science Fair   Illuminate Live at the Golden Gate Bandshell March 12 and 15 Happy Women's History Month! Join us for the free concert series, Illuminate Live, at the Golden Gate Bandshell, where all shows throughout March will feature women or women-fronted bands. Upcoming shows include Reggae Sunday on March 12 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. featuring DJs Irie Dole and Guid8nce with special guest DJ Sep. Next week, we have Singer/Songwriter Wednesday on March 15 from 4 to 7 p.m. featuring Elizabeth Boaz, Essie Thomas, and Momma Mia D'Bruzzi. For more information, click the link below. Golden Gate Bandshell   Outside Lands Announces 2023 Lineup Earlier this week, Outside Lands announced the lineup for its 2023 festival and its 15th year. It will take place from August 11 to 13 and will feature headliners such as Kendrick Lamar, Foo Fighters, Odesza, Lana Del Rey and more! Outside Lands   International Women's Day Spotlight: Staci White In honor of International Women's Day on March 8, we're highlighting a pillar of our department, Executive Assistant to the General Manager Staci White (Pictured Far Right). She has been with the department for more than 30 years, starting out through our Workreation program. In her time with department, she has risen through the ranks with her leadership ability, organizational prowess and customer service skills. Prior to her current position, she worked as a vendor at the Golden Gate Park Carousel and Japanese Tea Garden, and in our permits and reservations office, where she helped implement the team's first digital reservation system. As the executive assistant to the general manager, she serves as an important connector for our department with city leadership. She has also taken on a leadership role within our department, serving as a mentor to staff by providing professional guidance and support and co-founding our Black Women's Affinity Group. While our General Manager Phil Ginsburg gives direction to our department, Staci keeps it on track! Rec and Park Jobs   Greenager Program Accepting Applications for 2023 The Greenager Program is looking for rising 9th and 10th graders who live in or attend a school in the southeast or northeast neighborhoods of San Francisco. This youth stewardship and leadership program is a collaboration between the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department and Port of San Francisco that runs from June through November. The program offers teens a chance to take a leadership role in the community by improving the city’s green spaces, creating place-based projects, and addressing important local issues. General work hours are Saturdays, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. with some weekdays. Compensations is $18.75 per hour.   To be a Greenager, the participant must meet the criteria below: Live in or attend a school in: Southeast San Francisco including supervisorial districts 9, 10, or 11 (Excelsior, Portola, Bayview, Hunters Point, Visitacion Valley, Crocker Amazon, or Potrero Hill, etc.) Northeast San Francisco including supervisorial districts 3, 5 or 6 (Western Addition, Tenderloin, Chinatown, etc.) Must be a 9th or 10th grade student in the 2022 school year (Can be a 11th or 12th grader if applying as a 2nd Year Peer Leader) Completed applications are due by 11:59 p.m. this Friday, March 10. Greenager Application   Marina Improvement and Remediation Project Meeting on March 11 Join us for the first of two community meetings on the Marina Improvement and Remediation Project on Saturday, March 11 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. with the second on Wednesday, March 15 from 6 to 7 p.m. Both meetings will take place at Moscone Recreation Center (1800 Chestnut Street). The presentations will introduce the community to the project and provide an opportunity for attendees to give feedback to the project team. Arbor Day Fair on March 11 Join San Francisco Public Works for a day of greening and neighborhood pride in District 6 (South of Market) on Saturday, March 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The free event will feature volunteer opportunities, as well as games, activities, information booths, walking tours and more. Arbor Day Fair   Mobile Rec Rock Wall at Kellock & Velasco Mini Park on March 11 Mobile Rec comes to Kelloch and Velasco Mini Park (Kelloch and Velasco avenues) on Saturday, March 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy free BMX biking, skateboarding and more. Mobile Rec   San Francisco Model Yacht Club Opening Day on March 11 Join the SFMYC on Saturday, March 11 at 1 p.m. for its opening day regatta. The event celebrates the first day of the model boating season at Spreckels Lake (36th Avenue and Spreckels Lake Drive) in Golden Gate Park. The regatta will include the Ragtop/Stinkpot Relay Regatta, a friendly relay competition that cleverly includes skippers and boats from the Power Squadron, R/C Sail Squadron, and Freesail Squadron. The SFMYC has planned a full schedule of model boating activities from March through October. Join artist Charles Gadaken, the Box Shop and the San Francisco Parks Alliance for a closing celebration on Saturday, March 11 at Peacock Meadow to celebrate another year of Entwined bringing light, color, and joy to Golden Gate Park. Entwined Closing Celebration   Friends of Camp Mather Annual Gala on March 11 Join the Friends of Camp Mather for its annual gala on Saturday, March 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Lake Merced Boathouse (1 Harding Road).
