Dear Ruth Anne,

Earlier this week, the Board of Directors made the incredibly difficult decision to close Bay Area Children’s Theatre (BACT).

This was a heartbreaking decision. For nearly 20 years, BACT has sparked children’s imagination and creativity through our live performances, classes, and camps. 

This is a sad day for our organization — and our community. BACT has entertained more than one million audience members, including through our free or low-cost matinees performed for school groups from across the Bay Area.

We have brought countless smiles to children’s faces through shows like A Year with Frog and Toad and Good Night, Gorilla, and we are proud to have produced a range of original shows focused on themes of inclusion and empowerment.

The past few years have been challenging. As you may have seen, we recently launched our Save Our Stage campaign to raise funds to allow BACT to continue. While many people offered to help, growing, insurmountable financial burdens led to the Board’s decision to close the organization.

BACT is proud to have brought the joy and magic of live theater to children and adults in the Bay Area and beyond. We are immensely grateful to our performers, educators, creatives, and staff for their work and dedication, particularly during the challenging past few years. 

And we are forever grateful to you, our broader community of patrons and supporters, for making Bay Area Children’s Theatre a part of your lives.
