# K2C Congratulates our Class of 2023!

The students in the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) Class of 2023 are the first to graduate with Kindergarten to College (K2C) accounts to fund their higher education dreams.

Seniors who have contributed their own money to K2C, and who've had the account since kindergarten, have multiplied the initial $50 investment by the City by 28x!

We invite you to celebrate this landmark moment for the program and the field by watching this new video featuring four inspiring K2C graduates and reading a
San Francisco Chronicle article (https://t.e2ma.net/click/n79z9i/vhzc7tr/rq7ha4)
published today about one of those graduates.

The K2C Journey

Founded in 2011 by then-San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and Treasurer Jose Cisneros, K2C automatically opens a savings account seeded with $50 in public funds for every child entering kindergarten in SF's public schools, putting students on a path to college from their first day of school. There are more than 52,000 K2C participants, who as of today have $15 Million saved for post-secondary education.

K2C was designed based on research that
low- to moderate-income (https://t.e2ma.net/click/n79z9i/vhzc7tr/nb9ha4)
children with savings set aside for college are up to three times more likely to attend college and four times more likely to graduate from college than those without an account.

Programs like K2C cultivate
college-going identities (https://t.e2ma.net/click/n79z9i/vhzc7tr/339ha4). Savings is linked to increases in
math scores (https://t.e2ma.net/click/n79z9i/vhzc7tr/jwaia4)
among youth;
better health and education outcomes; and, the development of a “future orientation (https://t.e2ma.net/click/n79z9i/vhzc7tr/zobia4)."

San Francisco's K2C program has been replicated across the country, with 128 active College Savings Account programs reaching more than 5 million children in 38 states, including municipal programs in Oakland, Los Angeles and New York City, and statewide programs in California, Pennsylvania, Indiana and Maine.

New data released today illustrate the success of the program to date:

Seniors who have contributed their own money to K2C and who've had the account since kindergarten have an average balance of $1,422 - 28 times more than they started with in their accounts.
