Updates, news and events in San Francisco parks Highlights, News & Announcements Pop-Up Beer and Wine Garden Returns to JFK Promenade The pop-up beer and wine garden has returned to the promenade for the summer! It will be open from noon to 7 p.m. at the 14th Avenue East Meadow just west of the Rose Garden on Saturdays and Sundays. JFK Promenade San Francisco's Park System Ranks Among the Best in the Country The Trust for Public Land's annual ParkScore Index was released last week, and San Francisco's parks ranked among the best in the nation! Rankings are based on five factors: park access, park equity, park acreage, park investment, and park amenities. Each category was evaluated on a scale of 100 points. We received perfect scores for access and investment, while our dog parks and bathrooms received perfect scores for abundance. A report released with the ParkScore index also emphasizes that green spaces are increasingly valuable, cost-effective public health resources that can drive mental, physical, and environmental outcomes for communities. SF's Park System Among the Best in the Country Rec and Park Staff Celebrate AAPI Heritage Month Last week, Rec and Park employees celebrated Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month with city leaders and community members. Sharing AAPI comfort food has always been a fun and delicious way to bring people together, while helping to bring awareness and understanding of the AAPI community's diversity. It was also an opportunity to showcase our department’s many AAPI art forms and honor long-serving colleagues who have dedicated their careers to Rec and Park. Additional guests of honor included the Asian Firefighters Association and our Rec and Park Commissioners. Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this event celebrating the AAPI community’s diversity, histories, cuisines, languages, and cultures. Former SF Bay Sox Player Isabella Fong Makes Baseball History Last month, Isabella Fong made history as the first female to ever pitch in a San Francisco Section title baseball game. The Washington High School junior not only pitched, but started the game for the Eagles, which was played at Oracle Park. Fong played with our San Francisco Bay Sox girls baseball program and has worked with our department as a youth worker. She is representing the Philippines in the 2023 BFA Women’s Asian Cup currently taking place in Hong Kong. Congratulations Isabella and we look forward to you breaking more barriers in your already storied baseball career!
