Frances: Opening (say the light part)
All creation holds its breath.
*The time is almost here.*
The heavenly choir of angels waits for its cue to sing.
*Excitement is all around us.*
Prepare your hearts–The grace of God takes on human form.
Good news! Emmanuel, God-with-Us, comes to us.
*We gather to make ready our hearts *
*for the coming of Christ, our hope.*
Max: 1st Lesson
Lector: A reading from First Kings:
8The word of the LORD came to [Elijah,] saying, 9"Go now to Zarephath,
which belongs to Sidon, and live there; for I have commanded a widow there
to feed you." 10So he set out and went to Zarephath. When he came to the
gate of the town, a widow was there gathering sticks; he called to her and
said, "Bring me a little water in a vessel, so that I may drink." 11As she
was going to bring it, he called to her and said, "Bring me a morsel of
bread in your hand." 12But she said, "As the LORD your God lives, I have
nothing baked, only a handful of meal in a jar, and a little oil in a jug;
I am now gathering a couple of sticks, so that I may go home and prepare it
for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die." 13Elijah said to her,
"Do not be afraid; go and do as you have said; but first make me a little
cake of it and bring it to me, and afterwards make something for yourself
and your son. 14For thus says the LORD the God of Israel: The jar of meal
will not be emptied and the jug of oil will not fail until the day that the
LORD sends rain on the earth." 15She went and did as Elijah said, so that
she as well as he and her household ate for many days. 16The jar of meal
was not emptied, neither did the jug of oil fail, according to the word of
the LORD that he spoke by Elijah.
Lector: Word of God, word of life.
*Thanks be to God.*
Josie: Prayer of the day (say light part)
O Wisdom
coming towards us on the breath of God, seeping into every crack and corner
of the world with strength and gentleness to order everything just right.
Come now and show us the way to health and wholeness.
*Lord draw near. Draw near and save. Amen.*
Maddie: Prayers of the Peopld
The Prayers of the People
Let us turn our hearts to God, our breath and life, as we pray for the
church, the world, and all who are in need.
*A brief silence.*
O God for whom we wait, come quickly to your people, bring your salvation,
and center us in hope found only in you. Deepen our faith through
meaningful worship and send us out with your justice and truth. Hear us, O
God.
*Your mercy is great.*
O God for whom we watch, we glimpse your power in rushing water and your
beauty in the darkening night. Restore this creation and provide clean
water to all people and animals. Save us from foolish, wasteful living.
Hear us, O God.
*Your mercy is great.*
O God for whom we long, let justice roll down like waters on all nations.
Bless citizens with wise leaders; save your children from war. We pray
especially for those living in fear in Israel and Gaza. Hear us, O God.
*Your mercy is great.*
O God, in whom we hope, we pray for all who are in need. Provide for those
who experience homelessness or hunger, support the under- or unemployed,
and comfort any who are suffering this day especially those we name for you
now* (please wait 10 seconds)*. Hear us, O God.
*Your mercy is great.*
O God for whom we listen, inspire us through the music of our lives. Fill
our worship with songs to proclaim your greatness. Help us to sing and
dance with joy and tell boldly of your salvation. Hear us, O God.
*Your mercy is great.*
O God, in whom we trust, we pray for the ordained leaders of our church:
our Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton, our Bishop Jeff Johnson, our
Conference Dean John Kuehner, and our Pastors Janet Katari and Tom McQueen.
Fill them with your wisdom and inspire them through your love. Hear us, O
God.
*Your mercy is great.*
O God, in whom we remain, we remember our loved ones who have died and now
live in you (*especially*). Bring comfort and the assurance of new life to
all who grieve. Hear us, O God.
*Your mercy is great.*
We offer our prayers, trusting in your mercy and abiding love; through
Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord.
*Amen.*

Justice, therefore, represents the peace of God. This peace is freedom from
the violence that distorts the human person. It is the elimination, in
other words, of systems, constructs, and all actualities of violence. God's
peace thus requires a radical restructuring of a political, social, and
economic order that is sustained by and thus creates 'crucified classes of
people.' *Kelly Brown Douglas, Stand Your Ground, p. 195*
