Dear friends,
As 2023 draws to a close I find myself filled with profound gratitude and appreciation for our incredible team, our resilient community and supporters like you.
In January we achieved one of our long-standing dreams: opening a third workshop in San Francisco’s Bayview neighborhood. For over two decades we have partnered with many wonderful schools like Charles Drew, Malcolm X, Bret Harte, Willie Brown, Carver, MLK and organizations like the Willie Mays Boys & Girls Club in Hunter’s Point and the Bayview YMCA. Our mission? To bring hands-on science programs to students and families who, historically, have been sidelined from accessing high-quality science education in San Francisco. The pandemic intensified this need, especially in neighborhoods like Bayview-Hunters Point. With field trips curtailed and resources strained, our newest workshop offers local students and families the chance to walk in, be inspired, and immerse themselves in the wonders of science.
But our momentum didn’t stop there. In February, we unveiled our new mobile exhibit, the "Giant Blood Vessel". Thousands have already stepped inside, listened to the rhythm of their own heartbeats, discovered previously unknown cells, and delved into the intricacies of their circulatory systems.
Yet, there's a broader vision behind these endeavors. High-quality and meaningful science education is not just about knowledge. It's about fostering understanding, curiosity, and empathy. It can avert conflict, alleviate suffering, and bring balance to our world.
Your support empowers us to continue our mission. Together, we can ignite curiosity, inspire the next generation, and make a difference bringing more wonder and joy to thousands of students and their families in San Francisco and beyond.
With gratitude and curiosity,
Sonia Gandiaga
