You've just eaten the last of the Thanksgiving leftovers, shopped till you dropped both on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and in honor of Giving Tuesday - or as we like to call it - Giving ZOO Day, we are hoping you can open your hearts (and wallets) one more time to support SF Zoo and our animal residents.

Sometimes it's best to just go "by the numbers" to give you an idea of some of our fixed costs - what it takes minimally to feed our animals. A little extra also goes a long way for special treats and toys!
* $1,014 feeds our giraffe herd for one month
* $558 provides fish for our rescued grizzly bears for two weeks
* $320 feeds our pygmy hippo for one month
* $266 feeds our African lions for one month
* $109 provides a day's worth of fresh food and enrichment activities for our wolf pack
* $70 feeds our pair of Komodo dragons for two weeks

These are just a few highlights, and imagine how much we spend to care for ALL of our animals here, from the smallest amphibians to the megafauna, like our black rhinoceros. Many of our animals are on special diets, requiring special nutritious fare, or are geriatric and their needs are quite different.
