Winter Coat Drive This Weekend

We are kicking off December by partnering with One Warm Coat (https://sfzoo.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=05b8326f4402b997fe7a097e3&id=00c460ac4f&e=7683a9aed3) , the only national non-profit organization facilitating coat drives that are then distributed free to children and adults in need. This weekend, December 2 & 3, receive $1 off admission when you bring your clean, gently worn coats to Entry Village and make a difference in our community this holiday season. One Warm Coat also accepts other outerwear, such as sweaters, jackets, sweatshirts scarves, hats and gloves. Thank you for your generosity!
Docent Program Info Event This Sunday!
Our Docent Program Informational Event is this Sunday, December 3 and starts at 12 noon! Learn how you can become a Zoo Docent, and become a part of an dedicated group of educators and animal lovers. Enjoy new friendships, camaraderie, and get to know our animals intimately. Docents are among our greatest assets as they share information about wildlife, wild places and fun facts about our animal residents. The two-hour event will take place in the Great Hall of the Lurie Education Building.

Sunday's program includes a detailed presentation about the docent program followed by a complimentary Zoo tour and a hands-on demonstration on the use of our biofact cart (biological artifacts like skulls, bones and feathers). Enjoy light refreshments while connecting with others who share your passion for animals and our planet! Limited space is available. RSVP to docent at sfzoo.org (mailto:docent at sfzoo.org) .

Meet Santa & See Animals During Joy at SF Zoo

We will be hosting our holiday weekend event on Saturday and Sunday, December 9 & 10 with a special Members' breakfast and lunch with Santa Claus! Each day, you can follow a schedule of animal holiday enrichment presentations as part of Joy at SF Zoo.
* Saturday, December 9 - Holiday Lunch with Santa at the Great Hall located at the Lurie Education Building - 12 noon to 1:30 p.m.
* Sunday, December 10 - Breakfast with Santa at the Great Hall located at the Lurie Education Building - 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Reservations are required for the special holiday meals and include a buffet spread with hot cocoa and other beverages. The cost is $30 per adult and $15 per child. Space is limited. World Wildlife Conservation Day

December 4th marks World Wildlife Conservation Day, celebrating the diversity of all life on earth and for us, a time to recognize the 14 critically endangered species that reside at the Zoo. One such species is the red ruffed lemur (Varecia rubra), which, along with the black-and-white ruffed lemur, another of our critically endangered species, live in our Lipman Family Lemur Forest. In the wild, they are found only in one or two protected areas on the northeastern part Madagascar, including the Masoala National Park, though they are still threatened by illegal hunting and habitat loss due to logging and climate change. They are important to Madagascar's forests, helping with seed dispersal and pollination, keeping their ecosystems healthy.

World Wildlife Conservation Day was created by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2012 to raise awareness of wildlife extinction, endangerment and wildlife trafficking and poaching. What actions can you do to save wildlife? Avoid purchasing everyday products that use animal parts, use sustainable palm oil products and eating plant-based food items also contribute to helping wildlife.
