Hello Hoover Families,



Welcome to the Math Emails from Ms. He! I want to extend a huge thank you
for writing me a note about your child! I thoroughly enjoyed learning more
about your child from your perspective.



This week, we began Unit 6.1 - Rational Numbers and Absolute Value. Please
refer to the 6.1 Family Letters attached (in English, Spanish, and
Chinese), if you are curious about what standards/topics this unit covers.


Students have been plotting positive and negative rational numbers
(integers, fractions, and decimals) on number lines, as well as comparing
them by writing inequality statements. Next week, we will focus on absolute
value and solving word problems using diagrams and number lines.

Announcements / Additional supports for your child:



   1.

   I host Homework Club in room B12 during lunch every Thursday to support
   students with homework.
   2.

   MathCounts (similar to a math “sport”) allows students to be exposed to
   more advanced math curriculum and is hosted during lunch Mondays and after
   school Tuesdays and Thursdays in room B36. See flyer attached.
   3.

   6th Grade Math Contest is happening Tuesday, 9.19.23 after school. See
   flyer attached for more details about how to participate and the prizes
   involved.
   4.

   Back to School Night is this Thursday, 9.14.23 from 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM. I
   will be hosting three formal presentations in room B37 (it is the same
   presentation each time, so you only need to attend it once). From 6:45 -
   7:00 PM, I will do an informal meet and greet!
