ZOO HIGHLIGHTS
Calling all Artists! Come out to Art Safari this Weekend!
Come show off your artistic side by joining us for a weekend of art and art-making at Art Safari taking place this weekend, September 16 & 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Elinor Friend Family Playground area and around the Zoo. Throughout the day, we've got a great line-up of community artists guiding guests through chalk-coloring, origami-making, poster art (while supplies last) and art workshops. Watch muralists paint artwork on otherwise blank fences, enjoy wine tasting sponsored by Highlands 41, move to live steel drum music and shop craft booths. Art Safari is Free with Zoo membership or paid Zoo admission.

SF Zoo’s outdoor art collection, comprised of life-sized bronze animal sculptures, painted and sculpted murals and the one-of-a-kind, tactile Sculpture Learning Plaza depicting over 100 animals from microscopic to land and sea, is the impetus for the Art Safari event. Guests can discover artwork throughout the Zoo and see the for first time, the newly installed 45-foot-long tiled mosaic of the Leanne B. Roberts African Savanna by Artist-in-Residence, Henry Jackson, in homage to the Zoo’s late patriarch, reticulated giraffe, “Floyd” and the Zoo’s giraffe conservation efforts.

Limited Seats Still Available for "Drinks, Bites & Zoo Insights!"
There are still some seats to attend our free Member event, Drinks, Bites & Zoo Insights taking place this Saturday, September 16 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Osher Great Hall. This two-hour, adults-only (18 and over) event is exclusive for Zoo Members, where you can enjoy hors d'oeuvres and adult beverages as SF Zoo's Chief Veterinarian, Adrian Mutlow, will present a fascinating talk - "A Day in the Life of a Zoo Veterinarian."  Only registered SF Zoo Members may attend (sorry, guests are not permitted). To reserve one of the last spots, email membership at sfzoo.org.  (mailto:membership at sfzoo.org)
Giant Hay Maze is Back this Weekend for Sneak Peeks!
Fall is almost here and you know what that means...time to explore our giant hay maze, which is returning for sneak peeks starting this weekend! As the largest hay maze in the City, this family favorite is always a hit. This year, we're bringing back the "toddler maze" that sits adjacent to the large scale one. In the coming weeks, the maze will be fully decorated for the season! Located across from the Pachyderm Building by Great Ape Passage, we recommend parents and guardians monitor children. HAPPENING THIS MONTH!
International Red Panda Day
Join us on Saturday, September 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.as we celebrate International Red Panda Day at the Red Panda Treehouse habitat located in the Exploration Zone. Animal care staff will be on hand to share information about the work of the Red Panda Network, and will conduct two special red panda talks at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. You might also get a chance to see Tenzing and Hunter enjoy some fun enrichment!

With fewer than 2,500 red pandas remaining in the wild, this one-of-a-kind species is in danger of extinction in their native Himalayas ranging from Nepal, India, Bhutan, Myanman and China. As a flagship species in a biodiversity hotspot whose population has declined by 40% over the past 20 years, red pandas are threatened by habitat loss, human encroachment and illegal hunting. Members in good standing are invited to attend the Annual Meeting of the San Francisco Zoological Society on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at 2 p.m. The main item of business will be the election of officers and directors, as well as any proposed amendments to the Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws.
