Hi, all -

Remember that October 8 is the next Sunday of Confirmation Worship
leadership. Let me know if someone can't attend (I know that Frances is not
able to be there). And next confirmation meeting is October 12. Please sign
up to join as 2nd adult or to bring snack. Sign up here.

I enjoyed our confirmation session yesterday. Neal brought a snack (and the
church refrigerator provided some as well) & John Blair was able to stay
and help with class. Thanks!

We got started a little late because of back-to-school traffic, and jumped
in to talking/writing (Maddie lost her voice!) about the experience of
leading worship and the public service of packing the move-in baskets for
Lutheran Social Services. Then we did one more service to the church of
writing birthday cards for the CCL folks who have September birthdays.

We finished up by talking about the Manna and Mercy reading (first half of
the life of Jesus) and the books of Mark (Frances, Max, Neal) and John
(Maddie) and what the kids think were the important things about Jesus. We
talked a little bit about how the books of the Bible were chosen and about
how creeds got written.

I sent folks home with three versions of creeds - Apostles' Creed as
explained in Luther's Small Catechism, a personal creed from a class
assignment of mine in 2007, and a creed from Australia that is used at some
worship services there and here - and we'll talk more about how creeds are
developed, and the life of Jesus, at our next confirmation meeting on Oct.
12.

Schedule for worship leadership & homework is below. Note that this is a
tight timeframe - kids should focus on Manna and Mercy first and read what
they can of the Bible. If they haven't completed the gospel they read, work
on finishing that. If they have, read the beginning and end of another
gospel first. Let me know of any questions!

Justice, therefore, represents the peace of God. This peace is freedom from
the violence that distorts the human person. It is the elimination, in
other words, of systems, constructs, and all actualities of violence. God's
peace thus requires a radical restructuring of a political, social, and
economic order that is sustained by and thus creates 'crucified classes of
people.' *Kelly Brown Douglas, Stand Your Ground, p. 195*
