Updates, news and events in San Francisco parks   Highlights, News & Announcements   San Francisco Celebrates Golden Gate Park's 154th Birthday We’re grateful to everyone who stopped by Conservatory Valley to wish Golden Gate Park a happy birthday on April 4! We had a blast eating cake, playing, and even dodging a little hail. Jet Ogoy from the Young People's Teen Musical Theatre Company sang "Happy Birthday" and we also celebrated the California Academy of Sciences' 171st birthday, which shares a birthdate with the park. A special thanks to Mayor London Breed and the San Francisco Travel Association for participating and helping to cut the cake. Thank you as well to Outside Lands Music Festival for lending us Ranger Dave and Ranger Ruth to provide security for this event. Finally, a big shout out to the staff who work and care for this jewel of our city on a daily basis! Learn more about the celebration at the link below. GGP's 154th Birthday   New Outdoor Concert Coming to Golden Gate Park Another Planet Entertainment (APE) earlier this week announced a new outdoor, live music experience in Golden Gate Park. This exclusive concert, produced in association with Live Nation, takes place on Saturday, August 17 from 3 to 10 p.m. The lineup will be anchored by Alt Rock cultural icons, System Of A Down and the Deftones. Joining them will be The Mars Volta, Viagra Boys and VOWWS. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, April 12 at 10 a.m. For more information and to purchase tickets, click this link. The concert series will provide key economic benefits for San Francisco, while preventing cuts to City parks and programming. Under the approved agreement with the City, APE will hold two to three ticketed concerts in Golden Gate Park’s Polo Field in August the weekend after the Outside Lands Festival for three years beginning this year. Concert producers will fund free Muni rides to and from the Polo Field for concert ticket holders. In addition to the concerts in Golden Gate Park, APE will also produce complimentary concerts at Civic Center Plaza, Union Square and Embarcadero annually, also for three years. The new summer concerts in the Polo Field will have a footprint about a third the size of the Outside Lands Festival, and will accommodate smaller, headliner-focused events that will use a portion of Outside Lands’ existing infrastructure to minimize impact on the park. The City’s permit fees, $1.4 million for a two-day event and $2.1 million for a three-day event, will allow the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department to continue to offer programming to children, adults, and seniors across San Francisco, and care for its facilities. Learn more at the link below.
