Special Members Morning on International Orangutan Day!
In honor of International Orangutan Day on Monday, August 19, we invite Members to a special Members Morning to celebrate these critically endangered Great Apes. Gates open at 9 a.m. where you can visit the Zoo before the general public.
International Orangutan Day brings focus to both the on-going plight of Bornean and Sumatran orangutans, of which populations of both species continue to decline due to deforestation due to the global demand for palm oil, which has had devastating effects on orangutan habitats. There are many things the average consumer can do to help save orangutans, such as using products with sustainable palm oil. You can find information about the PalmOil Scan mobile app produced by the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) and our friends at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo below.

Stop by during your visit and see our own Bornean orangutans, Judy and Berani!

By including SF Zoo in your estate plans or when planning your bequest, you’ll be creating a lasting memorial in your name. As part of the Monarch Society, our planned giving program, your gift will help inspire a passion for animals and a commitment to caring for nature for future generations to come.
The afternoon event takes place on Wednesday, August 14 at 2 p.m. in the Zoo’s Bernard Osher Great Hall. You’ll enjoy high tea and hors d’oeuvres and a presentation by a representative from LifeLegacy who will educate attendees about planned giving through our partnership with LifeLegacy.

AZA Partners with Disney Branded Television on Disney Junior's Ariel
As a member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, we often get the opportunity to pass along news on some cool new children's programs! Recently, AZA partnered with Disney Branded Television on the promotion of its new series Disney Jr.'s Ariel.
With the Zoo so close to the Pacific Ocean, we love to spread the word about the importance of protecting marine life and our oceans, and our conservation team does impactful work to protect the coastline and the species that call it home. This series inspires children to explore, be curious by nature, and learn about the colorful world around us alongside our fin-tastic friends. Programs like this, geared to pre-schoolers, open their eyes to the wonders of the ocean!
Disney Jr.'s Ariel is an animated musical series for preschoolers inspired by the beloved story of "The Little Mermaid." It follows 8-year-old mermaid princess Ariel as she and her friends embark on fun-filled, action-packed underwater adventures. The series features fan-favorite characters, including King Triton, Ursula, Sebastian and Flounder and lots of other adorable sea creatures. Check out the show then come to the Zoo with your kids to help them build a lifelong appreciation for oceanic wildlife!
