This Monday! Special Members Morning to Celebrate Orangutans!
This Monday, we invite you to a special Members Morning in honor of International Orangutan Day as we celebrate these critically endangered Great apes. Gates open at 9 a.m. where you can visit the Zoo before the general public.
International Orangutan Day brings focus to both the on-going plight of Bornean and Sumatran orangutans, of which populations of both species continue to decline due to deforestation due to the global demand for palm oil, which has had devastating effects on orangutan habitats. Additionally, the illegal pet trade, which continues to be among their biggest threats. There are many things the average consumer can do to help save orangutans, such as using products with sustainable palm oil. You can find information about the PalmOil Scan mobile app produced by the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) and our friends at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo here (https://www.cmzoo.org/conservation/orangutans-palm-oil/palm-oil-scan-mobile-app/) .

Sunset Fridays returns tomorrow with The Puckett Family Project!
Visit us after hours at Sunset Fridays, our family-friendly event to celebrate animal connections, food, sustainable shopping, and live entertainment. This Friday's band is The Puckett Family Project, nine-piece band commonly known for their fun, festive shows. They play a mix of high energy, Americana rock/funk.

They've shared bills with a wide range of bands including Ricky Skaggs, Tea Leaf Green, Acoustic Junction and The Will Bernard Trio. Singer songwriter Tod Puckett’s vocal style often draws comparisons to Jack Johnson and sometimes Taj Mahal with original arrangements reminiscent of the Jerry Garcia Band.

This is a free event for Zoo members and tickets are only $12 for non-members. Children 11 and under are free!. Thank you to our sponsors Coca-Cola, Henna Garden, Cutwater, and Highlands 41 Wines.

Special Senior Stroll on World Senior Citizens Day
In honor of World Senior Citizens Day on Wednesday, August 21, we are hosting a special Senior Stroll from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., before the entry gates open to the general public. Each year, Senior Citizens Day presents a dedicated theme, and this year, it’s “powered by connection” and we believe one of the greatest connections that can be made are those between animals and humans.

This special guided walking tour is free to Zoo Members and is open to guests 65 and over. Non-members pay just $10 and parking is included. Purchase your tickets at the ticket window or show your Membership Card from your phone.
My Penguin Friend Now in Theaters!
SF Zoo is proud to partner with My Penguin Friend, an inspiring true story starring Jean Reno and Adriana Barraza. This sweeping family adventure is a tale of friendship between a lonely father and a lost little penguin who recharges his spirit and heals his family with an unshakable, ocean-crossing loyalty. Filmed on the spectacular coasts of Brazil and Argentina, Magellanic penguins were used for 90% of the live action, and designed for the safety and comfort of the penguins at all times. Weaved into the story is the migration and preservation of these remarkable birds, revealing what penguins can teach us about humanity. The joyful story of DinDim and Joao Pereira de Souza is both uplifting and poignant.
My Penguin Friend opens in theaters nationwide on August 16.
