Sierra Nevada Yellow-Legged Frogs Released

August 15th represented our Conservation team’s final day of yellow-legged frog releases for 2024, a milestone in the program with a total of 823 frogs returned to thirteen high-elevation lakes spanning the Sierra from Plumas National Forest, Yosemite National Park, and Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Parks this summer alone. Our team worked diligently to care for these frogs for a year, rearing them through metamorphosis and chytrid treatments, while our veterinary staff worked to ensure their health and wellness before release. Since 2014, we have released a total of 4246 microchipped juvenile and adult yellow-legged frogs.

This conservation project was supported by The Kinnoull Foundation, Sylvanus Charitable Trust, and the Ruth Smart Foundation.

Last Weekend of Nature Trail!

We’re wrapping up on our popular Nature Trail program for the summer and we want to give a big shout out and thanks to our youth volunteers and ARC staff for their great work this year! During the summer months, the trail has become an interactive Zoo wildlife education program where teen volunteers educate Zoo visitors about conservation and animals. Through hands-on learning, the teens impart important information on wildlife conservation and help build awareness of the interconnections between humans and the environment. Be sure to visit Nature Trail during its last weekend!

National Wildlife Day

Each year on September 4th, we are reminded of the threats to endangered species and the devastating loss of their wild habitats. Special dates like National Wildlife Day were created to keep us on our toes about the need to protect and conserve wildlife locally and globally. Many observers of National Wildlife Day make an effort to take action, learn about wildlife, volunteer and even visit a zoo!

If you would like to make a direct impact to wildlife conservation, support the Zoo with a donation today.
