Updates, news and events in San Francisco parks   Highlights, News & Announcements   Park Closures for the 4th of July As we get ready to celebrate 4th of July in San Francisco, our synthetic turf fields, as well as Twin Peaks, will be closing early on July 4 in the interest of public safety and to ensure the integrity of our parks. See the list below: Beach Chalet Crocker Amazon Playground Franklin Square Garfield Square Kimbell Playground Margaret Hayward Playground Mission Playground Silver Terrace Playground South Sunset Playground Twin Peaks Youngblood Coleman Playground These closures will be in effect starting at 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 4 through 5 a.m. on Friday, July 5. We encourage residents and visitors alike to celebrate the holiday safely and instead of using fireworks, attend a public fireworks display put on by professionals.   First Wheelchair Tennis Clinic Hosted at Goldman Tennis Center Last weekend, Rec and Park, BORP Adaptive Sports and Recreation, United States Tennis Association (USTA) Northern California, and Lifetime Activities partnered for our first ever wheelchair tennis clinic at the Lisa and Douglas Goldman Tennis Center in Golden Gate Park. Players from Bay Area Wheelchair Tennis, as well as youth and adult beginner players, participated in the event, which featured a match demonstration, as well as instruction and practice. Sports chairs were provided for participants, which were purchased for Gene Friend Recreation Center with a grant from San Franciscans for Sports and Recreation. The sports chairs are currently housed at Glen Canyon Park Recreation Center, home of our wheelchair basketball program while Gene Friend is being renovated. Rec and Park is expanding disability and adaptive sports and recreation in San Francisco. The department sponsors the national championship-winning Golden State Ducks Power Soccer team. It also offers an adaptive cycling program in Golden Gate Park and a wheelchair basketball program at Glen Canyon Park Recreation Center, with plans to add adaptive pickleball and goalball—a Paralympic sport created for people who are blind or visually impaired. The new Gene Friend Recreation Center, which will open in SoMa in 2026, will serve as Rec and Park’s hub for disability and adaptive sports.   SF Chronicle: ‘Visionary’ Who Helped Transform S.F.’s Presidio Retires Congratulations to the Presidio Trusts' Chief Park Officer Michael Boland on his recent retirement.
