Happy Summer!
SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE
Dear SFUSD Families:
I hope you and your family are enjoying the summer break and taking the time to relax. As we get closer to the beginning of the new school year next month, we want to share some reminders about our health requirements for students and our upcoming enrollment application periods for families who still need to enroll their students for the 2024-25 school year. We also want to provide you with updates about our Resource Alignment Initiative (RAI), our budget, and our Bond Program. Lastly, we want to celebrate more of our learning bright spots in SFUSD schools. Please keep reading this month’s newsletter for information about these topics and more.
We look forward to welcoming you back to school on Monday, Aug. 19!
In community,
Dr. Wayne

RESOURCE ALIGNMENT INITIATIVE (RAI)
SFUSD is engaged in a process to align our resources to our goals for student outcomes. This includes planning for school mergers, co-locations, or closures in the 2025-26 school year. This summer, the SFUSD RAI team is engaged in a thoughtful process of preliminary school portfolio planning. Staff will share an update of this work at the Board of Education workshop on Aug. 27. No closures, mergers, or co-locations will be announced at this meeting.

“I like hearing the stories of our families; I resonate a lot with them because I too was a migrant family. Doing a 360 now and working with them and alongside them has been really influential in my life. Giving them the space to feel welcome and giving them the tools to succeed is really important.”
-Brenda Sandoval Moreno,Community Relations Specialist, Parent Liaison (interviewed at the Summer Migrant Education program)
SFUSD's Summer Academy of Integrated Language Learning (SAILL) Celebrates 10 Years This Year
The program has partnered with Oakland Unified School District and others to help SAILL programs run in other districts. Besides making it possible for students in 9th-12th grades to recover credit and practice literacy activities, SFUSD's SAILL also houses an excellent social and emotional support program, with three counselors, a social worker, and a community outreach person.
