Experience Our New Summer Programs!
Don’t miss the return of Nature Trail, located in the Youth Exploration Zone. Stroll along the Nature Trail to meet our knowledgeable youth volunteers as they present a variety of animals at various stations. The return of Nature Trail for the first time in four years is exciting, as it is one of our most popular summer exhibits. Nature Trail is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays through Sundays.
Parents, take a break with your little ones during “Storytime” at the Wildlife Theater as our team reads delightful animal stories from our library of educational books. Storytime takes place Mondays thru Wednesdays from 11 to 11:30 a.m. and Mondays thru Thursdays from 1 to 1:30 p.m.

Meet a variety of animal ambassadors during our Wildlife Theater 'Animal Meet-&-Greet' presentation Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Multiple species from our Animal Resource Center will be featured, and you'll learn about their physical characteristics, social behavior, and other things that make them uniquely fascinating. Don't miss this opportunity to get up close to our amazing animals!

National Carousel Day is July 25

As one of SF Zoo’s most beloved treasures, we celebrate our historic Dentzel Carousel at the Eugene Friend Carousel Plaza on National Carousel Day with a Buy One, Get One special, valid on Thursday, July 25, 2024!

Here are 5 fun facts about our carousel:
1) It was built in 1921 by the renowned Dentzel family, famous for their intricate hand-carved wooden craftsmanship.
2) Each carousel animal was custom-made and embellished with whimsical details and jewels.
3) This Dentzel Carousel is one of an estimated 150 in the world, with only 25 in operation in the U.S.
4) When the carousel was renovated in 2000, the restorers spent nearly 1,000 hours recreating each animal as it was originally built, sourcing original colors and matching animal markings.
5) Millions and millions of revolutions, serving generations of riders of all ages, make this one of the longest-operating attractions at SF Zoo!
