Updates, news and events in San Francisco parks   Highlights, News & Announcements   First of Three Downtown Concerts Coming To Embarcadero Plaza July 21 Today, Mayor London Breed joined the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department and Another Planet Entertainment (APE) to announce the first of three free music events coming to downtown. The Dirtybird: Back to Baysics concert is set to kick off at 2 p.m. at Embarcadero Plaza this Sunday, July 21. Headliners for Sunday’s event near the City’s iconic waterfront feature Belgium-born DJ Sacha Robotti, Mz Worthy and Smalltown DJs, as well as DJs Moody Jones and Deron Delgado who will provide back-to-back sets. The concert is free, but attendees are encouraged to RSVP at this link. Together, the series of concerts kicking off this weekend, produced by APE in partnership with local music label Dirtybird Records, are expected to create hundreds of local jobs and contribute greatly to the City’s economy. Transforming downtown into a leading arts, culture, and nightlife destination is one of the strategies of Mayor Breed’s Roadmap to Downtown San Francisco’s Future plan, aiming for a stronger, resilient downtown that is an economic and global destination. In September last year, the City’s Board of Supervisors approved a plan for APE to host a series of ticketed concerts in Golden Gate Park following Outside Lands Music Festival and three Downtown locations, starting this year for the next three years. Embarcadero Plaza Concert   SF Bay Sox Bring Home Championship From Baseball for All Nationals Over the past week, the San Francisco Bay Sox Girls Baseball Program's 12, 14, and 16U teams have been competing in the Baseball For All National Tournament in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. We're excited to share that our 16U team, which won the national championship as a 14U team last year, has gone back-to-back, winning their second national championship in this age division! Additionally, the 12 and 14U teams had strong showings, going 4-1 and 4-2 respectively. Congratulations to all of these players, who are helping to blaze trails for girls and women in sports, and whose dedication to their craft and commitment to each other continue to bring more success on the diamond. A special shout out to the coaches, parents and volunteers who make this program one of the best in the world. Founded by Justine Siegal, Baseball For All is the world's largest nonprofit for girls' baseball and began with just one all-girls team playing against boys in Cooperstown. Now, they have players in over 40 states and five countries competing on teams in Baseball For All tournaments. The Bay Sox Girls Baseball Program of the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department was founded in 2015 by former women’s baseball players Rachelle "Rocky" Henley and Alex Oglesby with the desire to field an all-girls team to represent San Francisco in the inaugural Baseball For All National Girls Baseball Tournament. The program has since grown to provide yearlong developmental activities and teams for girls ages 6-18. Since its inception, the Bay Sox has expanded from one team of 12 girls to serving more than 120 girls annually with clinics and teams, in its quest to show the world just how much the game of baseball needs women and girls.
