New Zoo Hours
With Daylight Savings Time moving us ahead an hour this weekend, the Zoo is adjusting our opening hours to the public.  Starting Sunday, March 10, we will be opening our doors at 10 am and closing at 5 pm, with the last entry into the Zoo at 4 pm.  We look forward to seeing you here as we welcome spring and the magnificent blooming of our gardens this season!
Celebrate National Pig Day
March 1 was National Pig Day, so this week we are celebrating our male KuneKune pig. Here are some fascinating facts about this lovable animal resident:
* KuneKune, pronounced “kooney kooney”, is Maori for “fat and round,” which describes their typically short and round-bodied appearance.
* They are the only truly grazing pig, being able to survive on grasses alone.
* Male pigs are called “boars” while females are referred to as “sows”.

Join us for an extra-special BikeAbout on Mother’s Day and pedal your way through the Zoo before opening hours during a 60-minute riding tour! Tickets include a continental breakfast served immediately following the event. During this program, bike riders will learn what maternal care looks like throughout the animal kingdom.

Thank You Boeger Winery!
Recently the Zoo received a generous donation of bamboo thickets from Boeger Winery in Placerville.

Shoots of bamboo are included in the daily nutrition plan of our red pandas, making this donation very enjoyable for this vulnerable species. A very special thank you to Boeger Winery, a delightfully enchanting historic winery in the Sierra foothills.

Member Lecture Series
Sunset Fridays tickets are now on sale!

Our summer after-hour series is returning for a second season with more animal connection experiences, new food programs, and more live bands. VIP tents are also available for private seating that includes food and drinks.

Sunset Fridays are free for members of the Zoo, only $12 for non-members, and free for children 11 and under. Learn more about Sunset Fridays and see the band lineup below.
