World Bee Day 2024

The United Nations has designated May 20 as World Bee Day!

San Francisco Zoo & Gardens is a wonderful place to see a variety of bee species including bumble bees, sweat bees, carpenter bees, and honey bees. All are important pollinators of the many flowering plant species that flourish at the Zoo. Peek inside flowers on your next visit and you may see a busy bee sipping nectar and collecting pollen. Look for Insect Zoo Keeper Sabrina as she is out tending to our honey bee hive at Greenie’s Conservation Corner. Be sure to visit the observation hive in the Insect Zoo where you can see the inner workings of a hive up close. This Bee Day, take a moment to appreciate what Professor E.O. Wilson called the “little things that run the world.”

"The Great Migration" virtual reality experience - Coming June 1!
In the latest addition to the Zoo's virtual reality film experiences, witness how millions of free-roaming animals make their way through the peaks and perils of Africa's savannah terrain, from the Maasai Mara river in Kenya to the majestic landscape of Tanzania's Serengeti, in search for a better life across the animal kingdom.

The Zoo will continue to also show Gorilla Trek, the award-winning 360-degree film about the unique family dynamics that pit one silverback mountain gorilla against another for control of the gorilla family.

Located in the VR Zone of the San Francisco Zoo & Gardens, this virtual reality experience will literally change the way you view animal conservation. Tickets will be available at the experience and are separate from Zoo admission tickets.
Become a Jr. Zoologist this summer at the San Francisco Conservation Camp!
Do you have a 3rd or 4th grader who wants to learn more about zoology, the scientific study of the animal kingdom? From behavior to habitat and anatomy to classification, campers will journey into the world of animal science while learning about the Zoo’s animals and what makes them each unique.
