Nature Trail is Back this Summer!

** Nature Trail is back!
We are excited to announce the return of our popular Nature Trail program this summer.

** Nature Trail was founded in 1976. It is amongst the oldest zoo youth volunteer programs in the nation. It offers a unique hands-on opportunity for Bay Area adolescents who are interested in learning more about animals and the environment.

June 28 to September 1, 2024.

Nature Trailers will undergo a thorough three-day training session to learn animal facts, teaching methods, and safety protocols. Nature Trail volunteers develop skills in animal husbandry, teamwork, and public speaking. Nature Trail volunteers interact with Zoo visitors daily.

This will be the first time that the Nature Trail is open again since the program was shuttered during the pandemic five years ago. This first “reboot” season of Nature Trail will be smaller than in years past. It will only be open Friday through Sunday, and there will be fewer live animal stations. As a result, we can only accept 30 students into the program for 2024.

Requirements:
Nature Trail will be open from June 28 to September 1, 2024.
* Must be between the ages of 12 and 14.
* Must commit to working one day a week (Friday, Saturday, or Sunday) through Labor Day weekend. Volunteers will be allowed two weeks off for vacations.
* Must attend all three training sessions from 10 am-4 pm on Saturdays, 6/8, 6/15, and 6/22. There is a $100 fee to cover uniform and material costs, due on the first day of training.
* Must demonstrate a commitment to the San Francisco Zoo’s core mission: Connecting people with wildlife, inspiring Caring for nature, and advancing Conservation action.
