New Elf Power Free to Members this Weekend!
This weekend, Members can ride the newest virtual reality film, Elf Power, for free when it debuts to the public on Saturday and Sunday, November 16 & 17! Get ready to experience a ride you’ll never forget on Santa’s jet-powered sleigh in this virtual holiday adventure.
Just show your membership card to the representative at the VR Zone, located by the Great Ape Passage to ride. Non-members may purchase a ticket to ride, and as part of the November Rides BOGO, you can enjoy two rides for the price of one at both the Dentzel Carousel and at the VR Zone, which, in addition to the new Elf Power film, you can also experience either Gorilla Trek or The Great Migration. Carousel tickets are $4 per person, and the VR films are $8 per person. The Carousel is not included in the free member weekend.
World Anteater Day
On this World Anteater Day coming up on November 19th, we wanted to give a shout out to “Luke,” our male giant anteater who is the fourth oldest male living in zoos at the age of 26 years! In the wild, giant anteaters, which are the largest of the four anteater species, have a life expectancy of around 14 years of age. As Central America’s most endangered mammal, currently there are fewer than 5,000 left in the wild, and they are listed as vulnerable by the IUCN as their populations continue to decline due to habitat destruction and fragmentation, hunting, climate change and low reproductive rates.
We have two giant anteaters, our female, 14-year-old “Jade,” can be found at Puente al Sur and Luke can be seen across from our jaguar.

Open Thanksgiving Day (and Every Day!)
Thanksgiving Day is just two weeks away; school is out, the kids are home and you’re looking for a few hours to get some outdoor time before you and your loved ones indulge in fresh, out-of-the-oven turkey with all the trimmings. Well, of course, come on out to SF Zoo, open every day, including Thanksgiving! We are open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., ample time to say hello to your favorite chimpanzee, pet a goat, and relax on a bench while the kids burn some energy climbing and playing at the Elinor Friend Playground!
We just want you to know that we’re here, we’re open and Thanksgiving Day is a great day to visit!
A Victory for California
We are so pleased that California Proposition 4 passed! This important ballot measure will fund the protection of natural resources and proactively address the worst impacts of wildfires such as smoke, drought and pollution by responding to the causes and effects of climate change. Proposition 4 will not only protect our clean air and water, but will preserve California’s iconic forests, mountains, rivers, coast and wildlife. The measure will safeguard and protect California for future generations to come.
We are proud to have joined nearly 400 other institutions and organizations to provide funding for climate and coastal resilience, and we couldn’t have done it with you, our constituents and voting public.
