CELEBRATING SCHOOL!
SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE
Dear SFUSD Families:
We’ve had a busy first few weeks of school; it’s been a treat to visit our students as they continue their learning journey with SFUSD. I look forward to meeting more of our students during the course of the school year.
We continue our commitment to serving the whole child, one of SFUSD’s guardrails. Recently, we celebrated the[14] opening of a free grocery store at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Academic Middle School, where MLK Jr. students can shop twice a month for themselves and for their families. Food insecurity affects students’ ability to learn and concentrate on their studies. We hope that the opening of this store can help these students focus on learning and not worry about where their families can get groceries for their next meal.
As you may know, we have been working on creating a new portfolio of schools for the 2025-26 school year, which will include school closures, mergers, or co-locations. The public [15] announcementwill take place on Sept. 18. We understand that these changes will impact our communities and we are committed to supporting them during and after this transition. If you want to learn more, our [16] Resource Alignment Initiative websiteis regularly updated with the latest information.
Finally, I want to wish everyone a happy Latinx Heritage Month! We’re proud to be [17] launchingour Latinx Community Council on Saturday, Sept. 7. This new council will advocate for more equitable outcomes for Latinx students in SFUSD, lift up the voices of families, and connect them to important resources and information to better support their children. Please continue reading for helpful resources and bright spots at SFUSD schools.
In community,
Dr. Wayne

Middle Schools: Sept. 9 - Sept. 13 (these will be student-led conferences)
High Schools: Sept. 16 - Sept. 20
[18]
School Closures, Mergers or Co-Locations for 2025-26
SFUSD will share its recommendation for school closures, mergers, and co-locations on Sept. 18. We are committed to supporting students, families, and staff through these changes with the highest level of care. More details about the transition plans will be coming later this month. The SF Board of Education will vote on the recommendation at the Dec. 10 Board Meeting. [19] Learn more about the Resource Alignment Initiative.
