Support Red Panda Day Conservation
There will be a lot of activity at the Red Panda Treehouse on Saturday, September 21st as we celebrate International Red Panda Day! Animal care staff will be on hand to share information about red pandas and the important work of the Red Panda Network (https://redpandanetwork.org/) which has worked to protect and save endangered red pandas for more than 15 years through field conservation, habitat restoration and protection, education and community-based programs, in addition to spreading the word worldwide about the need to save red pandas.

With fewer than 2,500 red pandas remaining in the wild, this one-of-a-kind species is in danger of extinction in their native Himalayas ranging from Nepal, India, Bhutan, Myanman and China. As a flagship and umbrella species in a biodiversity hotspot whose population has declined by 40% over the past 20 years, red pandas are threatened by habitat loss, human encroachment and illegal hunting.

Come see our newest female red panda, “Little Mebo,” our male “Tenzing” and older female, “Hunter” on International Red Panda Day!

New Adopt-An-Animal Look
One of our most popular programs, Adopt-An-Animal, has a new look! Adopt-An-Animal is a great way to support the Zoo and the animals we care for and serves as a unique gift idea for friends and loved ones. What’s new to the program? When you purchase the Friend Level and above, your gift box comes with a plush animal, certificate of adoption and other fun surprises packaged in an all-new, specially designed Adopt-An-Animal printed box! Higher level adoptions receive additional items.

Among the animals you can adopt include a red panda, snow leopard, sloth, flamingo, gorilla, penguin, rhino, giraffe, lion and lemur. All adoptions are valid for one year and are renewable. For more information, visit the Adopt-An-Animal web page (https://www.sfzoo.org/adopt-an-animal/) .
