Led by Rec and Park in partnership with the A. Construction begins this month and is expected to be complete in 2028.

# New Pickleball Courts Debut at Crocker Amazon Playground
San Franciscans can now dink and ace on four dedicated pickleball courts at
Crocker Amazon Playground (https://t.e2ma.net/click/k2dozj/wfcl20hc/804mzu). The new courts are the result of a collaborative effort led by the San Francisco Tennis and Pickleball Planning Roundtable (SF-TAPP). SF-TAPP engaged residents and conducted surveys and community outreach to identify underused spaces that could be transformed into dedicated pickleball courts. Their full recommendations will be available in September.
The Crocker Amazon pickleball courts are
now available for reservation through Rec and Park’s online booking system (https://t.e2ma.net/click/k2dozj/wfcl20hc/ot5mzu), helping to ensure fair and convenient access for players of all levels.
The new courts were converted from a volleyball court to help meet the surging demand for one of the city's fastest-growing sports. Over the past several years, the department has dramatically expanded the number of pickleball courts, growing from just 12 in 2018 to more than 90 locations available today. ### Golden Gate Park Petanque Court Renovated, Re-dedicated for Jacques Biscay
This past weekend, the historic
pétanque court in Golden Gate Park (https://t.e2ma.net/click/k2dozj/wfcl20hc/ke7mzu)
was re-dedicated to Jacques Biscay, who played a key role in securing its location in the early 1960s. Known as La Boule d'Or, the court is the second oldest in the United States and the first ever built on the West Coast. Originally established by the Club de Petanque de San Francisco in 1959--now renamed La Boule d'Or--the site has long served as a hub for this French sport and its local community of players.
Ahead of the tournament, Rec and Park's maintenance yard completed a renovation project that refreshed the petanque courts by installing new borders, grading and resurfacing the court, relocating and upgrading benches, adding concrete pads for picnic tables and storage, replacing the kiosk, and enclosing the area with a split-rail fence.
Petanque is a French game, similar to lawn bowling and bocce, which emphasizes strategy, precision, and accessibility. With new courts renovated, La Boule d'Or plans to expand participation through free lessons, shared equipment, and larger tournaments, both regional and national. For more information on how to participate, click the link below.

### Coyote Pupping Season in our Parks
As we hit the dog days of summer, it means that we're in the midst of coyote pupping season. While coyotes are generally wary of humans, parent coyotes may become territorial if you or your pet stumbles upon their den.
To foster a safe coexistence between yourself and our natural neighbors (https://t.e2ma.net/click/k2dozj/wfcl20hc/sginzu), please take the following precautions:
* Never feed coyotes or any wildlife
* Keep dogs on leashes in our parks, unless in a designated off-leash dog play area
* Only admire coyotes from a distance
If you encounter a coyote, slowly back away carrying any small children or pets. Do not run. You may also scare the coyote away by appearing large and making loud noises.
If you encounter a coyote or see someone putting out food for a coyote, report it to Animal Care and Control (ACC) at (415) 554-9400, or by email at noopener noreferrer (mailto:acc at sfgov.org).
For more information, visit ACC's coyote page at the link below.

### SPARK SF Public Schools Launches Campaign to Boost Student Attendance
SPARK SF Public Schools, in partnership with the
San Francisco Unified School District (https://t.e2ma.net/click/k2dozj/wfcl20hc/06zozu)
(SFUSD),
launched a citywide campaign (https://t.e2ma.net/click/k2dozj/wfcl20hc/gz0ozu)
called "Be Here!" to emphasize the importance of strong school attendance and fostering a culture of belonging for student success and public school funding. Our
Video of the Week (https://t.e2ma.net/click/k2dozj/wfcl20hc/wr1ozu)
comes from SFGovTV and highlights this launch.
In the 2024-25 school year alone, SFUSD students lost an estimated 4.4 million hours of learning and SFUSD lost over $60 million in state funding due to student absences. A return to pre-pandemic attendance levels could restore close to 1.5 million hours of learning and $18 million of state funding annually for San Francisco public schools.
The campaign will roll out across multiple channels throughout the fall, with participation from city agencies, local leaders, and partners across every neighborhood. To learn more about the campaign and how to get involved, click the link below.
