The first time I planned on competing at the AEC was in 2018. I had just completed a Novice Three-Day at Rebecca Farm (Kalispell, Montana) on my 7-year-old Belgian Warmblood Shannondale Fionn, or “Dale.” We won that event, and I was full of confidence and ready to travel to the Colorado Horse Park since that was a very drivable two days. At the time I was 63 years old and had my 6-year-old Chihuahua, Siri, in tow.

The final USEA Emerging Athletes U21 Program (EA21) summer regional clinic took place at beautiful Aspen Farms in Yelm, Washington, from Aug. 12-13. We were on site to capture all of the key moments from coach Jan Byyny as 12 young riders learned new concepts on the flat and over fences.
