UPCOMING EVENTS
Dog Days at SF Zoo – SOLD OUT!
We’re having a “ruff time” with our Dog Days at SF Zoo monthly event because it’s become so popular that we “sell out” every time it’s offered! Our Valentine’s Day Dog Days date elicited great response for pre-registration and all of the registrants that were selected randomly and contacted let us know they will be coming with their best buddy.
For the safety of our animals, staff and guests, we limit the number of dogs that can be on-site at any one time, hence attendees are given staggered arrival times. Please note that some areas without barriers, such as the Family Farm are not accessible to dogs. Thanks so much for understanding and see you at the next Dog Days at SF Zoo which will be announced soon!
Love is in the Air
On Friday and Saturday, February 14 & 15, stop by our tables stationed by the entrance of the Exploration Zone (between the Dentzel Carousel and Sculpture Learning Plaza) to write a Valentine message and fashion a craft to your favorite Zoo animal! We’ll also have music and bubbles for double the fun!
And if you’re looking for a last minute Valentine’s gift idea, stop by the Membership Office where we will have available our special limited edition Valentine’s Day Adopt-An-Animal bear hug for just $49.99. This Adopt-An-Animal includes a plush bear, certificate, fun facts, rubber bracelet and candy. Supplies are limited!

NEWS TO KNOW
Spotlight on Critically Endangered Species
Our primary initiative this year is to bring our critically endangered species to the forefront, and our resident species here serve as vital ambassadors to help convey the plight of their wild counterparts.
One of our most beloved animals over the past 20 years was silverback Western lowland gorilla, “Oscar Jonesy” who served as one such ambassador. Sadly, Oscar passed away last week at the age of 43, and over the years, he led our troop of critically endangered gorillas with quiet dignity and strength, touching millions of lives near and far.
Here at the Zoo, we are home to 17 critically endangered species. You may wonder what the fuss is about. Critically endangered is the category that is at the cusp of near extinction as designated by the International Union of Conservation Nature (IUCN)’s Red List of Threatened Species. We have a responsibility to all the animals in our care, but the critically endangered species represent, unequivocally, how close we are to never seeing these animals ever again. In fact, we are privileged to tell their story, like that of Oscar Jonesy, and learn from them to better understand how to protect them in the wild. We will miss Oscar Jonesy. (Photo by May Woon)
